bgood3 Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Surprise 10 year anniversary trip for the wife and I. Trip centers around Bon Jovi / Daughtry concert in Newark, NJ on 11/4. Neither one of us have been to NY before, so I would prefer to stay in NY at a central location to gain access to public transportation to see sites and make concert in NJ Sunday night.Check in: Friday, November 2Check out: Monday, November 5Budget: Would like to keep total hotel cost to maximum of $600 for the 3 night stay.Occupancy: 2Hotel: 3 or 4 *Zone: No preference, but if I were to pick based on proximity to NJ and sites it would be Downtown - Soho. Thanks in advance for your help.
thereuare Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!I think your budget may be tough for this time of your, but to give it a try, are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3* or are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better hotel for your stay?Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?I assume the concert is at NJ PAC?PS- Happy Anniversary Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bgood3 Posted September 18, 2007 Author Report Posted September 18, 2007 Assuming PAC is the new Prudential Center then yes. I'm not totally objectionable to having to switch hotels if it is a dramatic savings, but to make it easy I would prefer to stay at one hotel. As far at the 3* vs 4* we are really not that picky. As long as it is clean, in a decent area, and close to the "tourist" stops that would be fine. So to answer your question I would say a least expensive 3* would be okay. When doing some preliminary research one of the hotels that caught my attention was the Club Quarters - Downtown. Some of the travel sites showed no availability, but others had availability?I also was thinking of staying in NJ near the concert venue and then travel into NY for the tourist stuff...I assume I would have a better chance at a lower price if I were to do that? Then again...being the first time to NY I feel like we should stay in the city itself. Thanks for the kudos on the anniversary! Looking forward to your response.
thereuare Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 NJ PAC = NJ Performing Arts CenterYou don't really want to stay in Newark... yes, it's less expensive, but you'll more than likely end up at an airport hotel, not very close to the venue, commuting the city will take up a large chunk of time every day, and the area can be sketchy at nite (except when big concerts let out as there is a big police presence to ensure safety as there was a lot of money put into the arena area there)If you wanted to stay in NJ i would think that Jersey City would be a better option (near the waterfront) as it would provide you easy access to Manhattan as well as easy access to Newark on the day of the concert... but as you point out, you do lose much of the "NYC feel" by not staying in the city.Since any zone within Manhattan is acceptable, you can try bidding as follows:Select 3* MTE...Bid $100, if rejected add UES...Bid $105, if rejected add UWS...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW...Bid $100, if rejected add UES...Bid $105, if rejected add UWS...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $100, if rejected add UES...Bid $105, if rejected add UWS...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS...Bid $100, if rejected add UES...Bid $105, if rejected add UWS...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* Downtown...Bid $100, if rejected add UES...Bid $105, if rejected add UWS...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW...Bid $115, if rejected add UES...Bid $120, if rejected add UWS...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $115, if rejected add UES...Bid $120, if rejected add UWS...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and Downtown...Bid $115, if rejected add UES...Bid $120, if rejected add UWS...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add UES...Bid $135, if rejected add UWS...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTS...Bid $130, if rejected add UES...Bid $135, if rejected add UWS...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and Downtown...Bid $130, if rejected add UES...Bid $135, if rejected add UWS...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTS...Bid $145, if rejected add UES...Bid $150, if rejected add UWS...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTW...Bid $145, if rejected add UES...Bid $150, if rejected add UWS...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and Downtown...Bid $145, if rejected add UES...Bid $150, if rejected add UWS...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add UES...Bid $165, if rejected add UWS...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW and MTS and Downtown...Bid $160, if rejected add UES...Bid $165, if rejected add UWS...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTS and MTE...Bid $175, if rejected add UES...Bid $180, if rejected add UWS...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTS and MTW and Downtown...Bid $175, if rejected add UES...Bid $180, if rejected add UWS...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and MTS and Downtown...Bid $190, if rejected add UES...Bid $195, if rejected add UWS...Bid $200.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. Anna_Elizabeth Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 Just a reminder that the New York City Marathon is on Sunday, November 4th, so finding an hotel in Manhattan for your dates may be a little tricky as there are special events the entire week leading up to it. But don't give up as there may be last minute room releases to Priceline.
bgood3 Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 Cleaning up the thread...I did not end up booking this trip at all. As it turned out, I could not get anyone to watch my rugrats!
