sk94 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Hi. I am new to this forum. I have read FAQ section and some other postings below for a couple days. I am going to Honolulu first for 3 days(1/1/08-1/3/08) and planing to go to Maui for 4 days to complete a week trip. ( 1/4/08-1/8/08)I have read others getting Westin Maui at very good price before. Since I am going to Maiu during the peak season, I am willing to spend a little more than what others pay these days. However, I would like to know how you all got Westin, not other hotels. How much should i say for the starting bid? Do you think it is still to early to start bidding? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.
thereuare Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!I am willing to spend a little more than what others pay these days. What is your maximum bid? However, I would like to know how you all got Westin, not other hotels. The Westin was not guaranteed, however since there was recently (still currently?) a great deal for this property, one which other hotels wouldn't not have likely accepted, it increased the probability of landing the Westin (although not guaranteed... at anytime another another hotel in the area could have tried to compete and offered a similar, or lower, acceptable bid amount)How much should i say for the starting bid? Do you think it is still to early to start bidding? It's never too early to bid if you don't overbid... see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ for a further discussion.Let us know if you're ready to bid now, and if so, what your maximum bid is... we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow. sk94 Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 :) Hi. thanks for your input. I think 250 is my absolute max and i would like to get below 220 dollars/night if possible at Westin. I checked other hotels website, priceline's non-bidding site, hotwire, Expedia, Orbitz and so on. Some of the hotels don't have rates for January yet. For example, if i check HOTWIRE for the dates above, I don't get many hotels on the list. There are no 4 * hotels at all in Maui for the dates above. Even for honolulu, I checked HOTWIRE. They don't seem to have many options for Jan 08. Anyway please guide me more so I could succed Eventually...
thereuare Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Maybe the hotels are actually sold-out, or near capacity, that they're not selling/pricing rooms until they have a better feel for the number of cancellations that come in (if any). The Westin is showing $600+ per nite for your dates above, the Sheraton si sold-out while the Hyatt is sold-out too... but if you search the Hyatt for dates later in 2008 (i searched for dates in June) you will see availability. When bidding Resort in Maui you have one re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select Resort Ka'anapali-Lahaina...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155.The above is very likely too low, but with time on your side i would at least start with the above two lowball bids... if rejected we'll advise to try again in 24 hours.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. sk94 Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 125 $ got rejected. tried 135$ with another zone, but then i got a counteroffer which is ridiculous. I am going to look at Big island as well now.
sk94 Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 :) Hm.. I was just frustrated with Maui, so I decided to do Honolulu first.Since I am staying in Honolulu from 1/1/08-1/4/08, I first did bidding for the whole trip period. No luck with 160 $ for 4* on waikiki beach & marina. Then I just did bidding 160$ for 1/3/08-1/4/08 for 4* in Waikiki beach and marina. Then they acceped 160$ for Marriott Waikiki Beach And Spa. Hmmm. I am not sure if it is a good deal or not. Anyway no point regretting now. Right? :)
thereuare Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Thank you for sharing your results with the board.Rates directly thru the Marriott are over $300/nite (average) for these dates so i'm not sure why you think this is not such a great deal or what you were expecting. :)Please start a NEW TOPIC for the balance (Maui) portion of your stay.Enjoy this leg of your trip. sk94 Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 I guess it was a good deal. My husband seems happy with it. ^^ thanks for your help. I decided not to go to Maui. We will probably get a reservation via the hotel's main site for resorts either in Big island and Kauai since it is not available at PL or HW.
sk94 Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 oh, my marriot reservation was just for 1 day. From 1/3 to 1/4. Please correct it on the title.
