RobbiGee Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Hi all,UK user here.Looking for a 4 or 3 * hotel in Boston for the nights of the 9/10/11th of November this year. Not yet put together a bidding strategy a) because I'm new and :) I think the options on priceline.co.uk are slightly different to priceline.com ??My other question is, what is going on that weekend that seems to make the standard hotel prices $100+ more than the weekends either side. I'm worried we've picked a really bad weekend to go if we're looking to do Boston on a budget!!Any advice people have will be very well received!ThanksRob
blindman Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Welcome to Betterbidding.Once thereuare wakes up :) he'll get back with a strategy.Meanwhile:What's your maximum budget? Is Central the only area that would be suitable in Boston?Have you seen the likely hotels and their reviews?I assume you won't have a car so will rely on public transport.Airport hotels can be a cheap bet, with only slight inconvenience to get downtown.Priceline UK and US have the same hotels and zones. The only major difference is that the US site offers travel insurance (IMHO not worth it) and the opportunity to "Extend your stay" which can be useful but not a major bonus. If you look at HOTWIRE you can get a gauge of what the possible winning bids required by priceline.
RobbiGee Posted September 5, 2007 Author Report Posted September 5, 2007 Hi there, cheers for replying. We were looking at spending about

thereuare Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 What is your budget for this stay?Which zone(s) are you willing to accept? Given the high rates you're currently seeing... is staying in a zone outside of the Downtown area a possibility? (ie- sometimes you can find better deals in Cambridge, Quincy, etc... although these can be less convenient depending upon the needs of your stay) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thereuare Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Which zone(s) are you willing to accept?Central is not essential, I know the T etc is great for getting around in the day but I wanted to make sure it was easy to get home again after a night out."Central" is relative... to avoid confusion i was looking for a list the zone(s) which are acceptable. :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
RobbiGee Posted September 6, 2007 Author Report Posted September 6, 2007 Cambridge looks OK. Quincy I must admit I'm not so keen on.Was hoping for some local advice about travel but will settle for suggestions from others !!
thereuare Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 So besides Cambridge... which other zone(s) are you wiling to accept. (Downtown?? Copley??) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
RobbiGee Posted September 7, 2007 Author Report Posted September 7, 2007 So besides Cambridge... which other zone(s) are you wiling to accept. (Downtown?? Copley??)Downtown and Copley certainly, over Cambridge in fact. Also we've been told Brighton area is quite nice as is quite studenty and has bars/restaurants etc .....
thereuare Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 So is Brighton another zone to add?Are you willing to pay more to stay in the Downtown and Copley (and Brighton?) zones vs. Cambridge? Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3*? ...or is your ultimately goal the least expensive 3* or better hotel in either of the four zones mentioned? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
RobbiGee Posted September 8, 2007 Author Report Posted September 8, 2007 Hi there!I'd say Brighton was a place to add should the 3/4* hunt fail in Downtown or Copley.I'd rather spend my full budget on a nice 3* in Downtown than a 4* in Brighton/Cambridge for example.I'd say order of preference was:4* Downtown > 4* Copley > 3* Downtown then it's a toss up between 3* Copley and 4* Cambridge/Brighton I guess. Thanks for your help everyone so far !! :)
thereuare Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 At both the 4* and 3* levels you have three re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Downtown...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Copley...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Downtown and Copley...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200I'd start with the above, if rejected (which i think is very likely) post back and we'll move on to a 3* strategy.
