cincy Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I am trying to bid for a 4* Midtown hotel in New York City Thursday November 8-12. I was wondering if I had a good chance bidding for 4 days, one being a weekday and the following three being a weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun). Should I split my bid? I just don't want to ruin my chances due to bidding for 4 vs 3 days or a weekday plus 3 weekend nights lumped together. Any advice from those experienced would be greatly appreciated.

cincy Posted September 5, 2007 Author Report Posted September 5, 2007 I was hoping for Midtown West, if not then Midtown East. Of course if all else fails I'd look into other options. I was hoping to get half priced hotel for about $200 or less. I already prebooked a hotel that can be cancelled a day prior for $369 -- Millenium UN I'm really hoping not to have to pay that much for 4 days in a hotel. That's a price for a nice cruise for a whole week that includes food! But I have a flight booked so, I need a hotel. I'm excited about visiting NYC.
thereuare Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 The Millenium UN is a 3* rated hotel by priceline, so by looking for a 4* at half the price of this property, you're not really making an apples-to-apples comparison. I'm doubtful you'll be successful at a 4* for $200 or less. My suggestion would be to include the other midtown zones now so that you can maximize your bidding opportunities as well as increase the number of hotels that could potentially accept your bid.As well, i think you have much better back-up options than the Millennium UN:Eastgate Tower for $292Beekman Tower for $315Affinia Dumont for $339Millennium UN for $342 (same hotel but cheaper, although i would take the above, especially the Affinia Dumont, before the Millennium UN)All of these are thru GTA Hotels... you just have to doublecheck the cancellation policy of each. They advertsie "the vast majority" of their hotels are cancellable, but the actual terms will be shown during the checkout process. With the above noted, do you still want ot try for just MTE and MTW or are you willing to include the other two midtown zones? cincy Posted September 7, 2007 Author Report Posted September 7, 2007 Thank you for the info. About the question about including a weekday with a weekend or 4 days vs 3 days... What are your thoughts. Thanks in advance for your help.
thereuare Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 I think a hotel at $200 or less is going to be tough for this stay. You will likley have to split the bid, but i would certainly try the complete stay first. With the above noted, do you still want ot try for just MTE and MTW or are you willing to include the other two midtown zones? Anna_Elizabeth Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 I have also been bidding for the last few days on the following with no luck: 11/09 - 11/12, 4*, MW/UM-CPS, all under $200. I haven't made a back-up plan as I'm hoping that the hotels will release more inventory as the date gets nearer. I won't change to a 3* until the last week of October. Should you do get something, please post. Thanks.
