jniff Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 Hi -- I've been reading all the helpful info on the boards, and I am finally ready to take the plunge .... Any advice on a strategy for bidding for a downtown Montreal hotel for 10/9 - 10/14? I'm looking for 3* or above and would like to pay no more than $100/night max. Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! You could probably get a 4* hotel for within your budget... would you like to try for that first up to your budget, or are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better property and would prefer the lower star rating if it costs less?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. jniff Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 Maybe go for the 4* first ... Thanks.
thereuare Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 At the 4* level you have four re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Montreal...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previoulsy.Select 4* Montreal and re-bid zone4...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $100.Also, before you bid as high as $100, note that HOTWIRE has a 4* in the Downtown zone for $89 (although i believe this may be the Hyatt Regency... a 3* on Priceline, but if that's a "good enough" for your needs you may not want to bid higher than $89... as well there is a 3.5* hotel for $85 (the Delta or the Ritz Carlton) which, if also acceptable, you may want to stop bidding at that level)Feel free to ask ask any questions you may have.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. jniff Posted September 8, 2007 Author Report Posted September 8, 2007 Worked like a charm -- I followed your strategy as outlined above and was accepted at $80 for the 4* Hotel Omni Mont Royal. To summarize:4* Montreal - Hotel Omni Mont Royal10/9 - 10/14 (five nights)Rejected at $65, $70 and $75Accepted at $80Total is $400 + $81.12 in taxes = $481.12 USAlso, I started by linking to Priceline from savingsbarn.com.Thanks for the help - the hotel looks great! A standard room is listed at $175 on the hotel's web site. Thanks also for providing the Hotwire info -- I probably would have gone for one of those had I not been accepted though $85.
