I am going to Vegas on Oct 5 for 2 nights. When should I start bidding on a hotel room? Is it best to wait till the last minute. I prefer a 5* on the strip and would like to pay around 300/night. Is this possible?!?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

When should I start bidding on a hotel room? Is it best to wait till the last minute.
See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

I'm not sure that $300 will be enough for this stay, but you can try as follows (and a suggestion near the end of this post as well):

At the 5* level in Las Vegas you have 8 re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 5* North Strip...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $240, if rejected add re-bid zone5...

Bid $250, if rejected add re-bid zone6...

Bid $255, if rejected add re-bid zone7...

Bid $260, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 5* North Strip and re-bid zone8...

Bid $265, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $270, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $275, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $280, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $285, if rejected add re-bid zone5...

Bid $290, if rejected add re-bid zone6...

Bid $295, if rejected add re-bid zone7...

Bid $300.

If the above is rejected, you could book the Venetian HERE for $365/nite as a back-up cancellable back-up, which is still about $85/nite cheaper than a direct purhase.

Any questions regarding the above feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice. I am planning on using the link provided to book the Venetian today as a backup. I just had a quick question. When i click the link and enter my dates, it returns two rooms at the venetian. However, the room availability for the standard suite is "on request". Is that okay?! What is the difference in "on request" and "available?

When originall posted (3 days ago) it was 'available' which is a good example of why we always recommend booking cancellable back-ups asap since they can disappear at any time.

To understand the difference between 'on request' and 'available' see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

Still no luck on a 5*. I took my priceline offer up to 350/nt

It time to start looking at the 4 star options. After going over the list of priceline hotels, most 4 stars on the strip should work. My favorite was NewYork NewYork. It is currently going for around 350 a night online. Any suggestions as to what my opening 4star bid should be?

I am still also looking for a backup reservation..... The NewYork NewYok reservation is non-refundable, and I am unable to book directly through them.......
