spiderman2 Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Hi,I will be staying in New York for 10 days from Dec 23 (Sun) to Jan 2nd.Since I will be staying for so long I will need a cheap place to stay. Any thoughts on a 2 star in Midtown South. I currently see it between $119 to $179 depending on the stretch of days (xmas vs new year's). Hotel Amenities- Complimentary Breakfast- High-speed Internet Access- Fitness CenterShould I bid for one day just to ID the hotel first? What strategy should be used here?I notice the prices change up and down every few days. Should I wait closer to the time of booking. Still have about 4 months to go.Is midtown south close enough to everywhere I want to go in Manhattan or should I get a hotel in Soho for a few days?Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Personally i'd be a bit hesistant with a 2* in NYC, but what is one set of dates that you see the above hotel appear and we'll try to take a closer look at IDing it. spiderman2 Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 I put in Dec 23 to Jan 2 and I get price of $149 per night.
thereuare Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 This property has not yet been identified, but my best guess would be the Regency Inn and Suites. Assuming we are correct, and you read these reviews, it re-inforces why we don't recommend the lower star rated properties in NYC. :)If you notice there is a 3.5* property in the MTC zone on HOTWIRE for just $35 more per nite... and while $35 adds up over 10 days, it's probably an extra $35 well spent vs. the 2* property above. I didn't even look to ID it as i have no idea how flexible your budget is so don't know if it's within the relm of possibilities. If you do book either please use this HOTWIRE link to begin any purchases you make.Let us know what you decide or how we can be of further help. spiderman2 Posted August 31, 2007 Author Report Posted August 31, 2007 Hi, I'm new to priceline, I normally just use hotwire.I would like to see if I can get a better deal than hotwire.I'm travelling to New York from Dec 23, 2007 to Jan 6, 2008.I can currently get a 3.5 star on hotwire for these dates for $179. I'm guessing this is the Hudson Hotel from my research on this site. It seems like a pretty good deal but I'd rather not deal with the tiny rooms.I'd like to get a 3 star in Midtown for maybe up to $160 or so, or a 4 star if it's close to $180.Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.Exactly which midtown zones are you willing to bid? Is MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, and MTS all acceptable? As this is a 2 week stay, one which includes NYE, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? To save the most amount of money i think you'd need to split twice (3 different hotels) but realize you may not want to change hotels more than once (or at all).Let us know regarding the zones and splitting and we'll then be able to suggest a strategy to follow.
