Priceline Hotel: Help - Las Vegas 09/17/07, 1 night

Hi and thanks in advance for reading my question topic and four your help.

Just discovered this forum (it is really great!) and hope it's not too late to get good deals through it as we are leaving already on Saturday, 1st September on our long trip to USA.

Anyway, after being reading the different topics for about 4 hours, I am not sure if I am prepared for beading at Priceline and getting good deals ;-)

The most urgent thing would be now to book a room in Las Vegas, arriving 17th September, 1 night, 2 persons, hotel should be in the Strip or very closed.

What would be a good starting bidding offer for a 4* hotel?

If the bid is succesfull and we feel confident with the procedure, I think we will try to book the hotels for our trip that way.

What is your maximum bid for a 4* hotel? Is a hotel such as the Westin, which is slightly off-strip, acceptable?

I will also add that for this stay i don't think a 4* hotel is the "sweet spot" of value... if you could get a great deal at a hotel such as Harrahs, would that be acceptable?

Harrah's looks fine, if I go through the Harrah's website, I get a room for 75 + taxes. Do you think I can get a better deal through Priceline?

Westin is USD 151.51 through the Westin's website.

Maximum bid for 4* would be 100 plus taxes.

Book the $75 rate directly thru the Harrah's website.

Then immediately submit a claim to them for their best rate guarantee, using the EasyClickTravel rate of $73.11 as an example of the 'better price'. Harrahs will verify the rate, match it, and give you an additional 25% off, bringing your actual room cost down to roughtly $55/nite :)

The EasyClickTravel rate of $73.11 is for the room type "Leisure Standard", the $75 rate directly thru the Harrah's website is a "deluxe" room. I think the hotel might reject this claim, as we are not talking about the same room type.

I think the $75 is a good rate so you can keep it if your claim is rejected (or you can look further), but since the $75 rate thru the Harrahs website is cancellable i don't think you have anything to lose. If they reject the claim you can then decide to keep the reservation or cancel it if something better comes along.

I think the above is likely your best deal... if it can be beat it's not going to be by more than a few of dollars (and i'd question if it would be worth not choosing the hotel).

You can try to beat it, but right now you don't even know what you're trying to beat, since you don't know the net cost of the above (if the price match will work or not). Since the rate thru Harrahs is cancellable, i'd book that, go for the price match, and then you'll know exactly what would constitute a 'better deal' (and set your maximum bid accordingly)
