Priceline Hotel: power in multiple rooms?

I would like to bid on 6 rooms for 2 nights(Oct 27 / 28) in lower Manhattan. I see that bids have been accepted at around $170. Could I expect to be able to bid a significantly lower amount because I am essentially booking 12 nights stays? Also, will the rooms all be in the same hotel? Thanks for your help, I look forward to adding my info to your site.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Bidding on multiple rooms will not help you... it's usually a "non factor" (meaning it has no effect) but if it does affect your bid it's to the downside. Using your example, if a hotel has loaded 3 rooms into the system at a price for which your bid price would be accepted, your bid would actually be rejected since there aren't enough rooms at that price to fufill your request.

All rooms placed in the same bid will be at the same hotel.

The $170 rate you're expecting based upon previously accepted bids... were these other bids for a similar time period? (ie- Fall 2007)

Just the opposite... summer in NYC is low season... Fall is high-season.

What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional methods? (use our BetterChecker to assist in your search.

Is Downtown the only zone you're willing to accept? (it's not usually the first choice of the typical visitor)

If you let us know your maximum bid (if it's still $170?) and if any other zones are acceptable we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow (asusing your ready to bid now)

The main reason I chose lower Manhattan was that the 4* hotels were cheaper than midtown. The Millenium Hilton goes for $269 per night and comparable hotels in midtown were closer to $400. We will be sight-seeing from Central Park down to Battery Park so the location is not as important as the 4* rating. MTW would be my first choice followed by MTE, UM/CPS,DT,MTS. I'd say that my max bid is around $200 because after that I'd like to pick my specific hotel. Thanks for your help, rw

There is often little correlation between which hotel will accept your bid and the hotel with the lowest retail price. As well, if you think Downtown will be the least expensive area, why not include it in your bidding, but also bid the other (more favorable) zones... if you get accepted in midtown then it's just a 'bonus'.

So would you like a bidding strategy for just Downtown or one which includes MTW, MTE, UM/CPS, DT, and MTS?

I guess you were right about 6 rooms being a negative. I went through the whole bidding process up to $200 and got rejected every time. If it had only been 1 or 2 rooms, I think it would have been taken for sure. Thanks for your help.

I'm not as confident as you are in this regard.

Does the group have to all be at the same hotel, or to save money, can you split the group into 3rooms/3rooms or 4rooms/2rooms?
