frankie54 Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 I'm looking for assistance on pricing for NYC 9/28 9/29 9/30 4* hotel in MTW. I tried bidding upto $205/night on priceline and was declined, I don't want to go over $250 what should I bid? Is my max too low?
thereuare Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! Two questions to get started:1) is this a 2 nite stay or 3 nites? (not clear if your check-out date is 9/30 or 10/1)2) is there a reason why you're only bidding the MTW zone? NYC is large, but also so compact, that most midtown locations work well for the average visitor. Most are 'fine' with MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, and MTS is sometimes added as a forth choice when rates are high or for difficult stays. If price is important, i would consider adding other zones and not just bidding MTW by itself as it will improve your chances by giving you more re-bid zone as well as give more hotels the ability to accept your bid amount.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. frankie54 Posted August 28, 2007 Author Report Posted August 28, 2007 1) 3 nite stay, check-out would be 10/12) on my first attempt biding the zones I used were MTW, MTE, UES, UWS. We have friends staying at the Sofitel on 44th and we's like to be within walking distance.
thereuare Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Personally, once you start getting $200+, i would consider adding other midtown zones (UM/CPS and MTS) as while they may not be walkable to the Sofitel, they'll be close enough to use your metrocard to get there easily... as well, most of your 'touring' (if that's what you'll be doing) won't necessarily be centered around the Sofitel... you could just as easily meet your friends at the 'venue' you're attending or at a given street corner (as they'll likely be taking the subway as well). You can also do as NYers and say "be in the first car of the train and i'll wait at the front of that platform... if we see you we'll get on the train, if you don't see us get off and we'll meet you on the platform".When did you make your last failed bids (as we'll just continue from current pricing if very recent, otherwise we'll backtrack a bit). Also let us know your thoughts regarding the other zones. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
frankie54 Posted August 28, 2007 Author Report Posted August 28, 2007 I am open to other zones as long as they are good neighbourhoods to stay in. The last bid was 48 hrs ago.
thereuare Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I am open to other zones as long as they are good neighbourhoodsThis is subjective so i can't say which zones would be best for your stay, so you'll need to do a little research first (this thread,Priceline New York City Zone Descriptions, may help). I know i would have no problem with MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, and MTS, and these are the zone most frequently bid, but you'll have to decide for yourself if these zones are acceptable for your needs. It's not clear if you have one other set of friends who are staying at the Sofitel or if there are multiple other rooms booked there that you need to meet up with (if the latter i would feel more strongly regarding needing to be close to them, but if just one other couple/family, then i'd have no problem meeting them throughout the city to spend the day)Let us know which zone(s) you decide and we'll be in a better position to advise. frankie54 Posted August 28, 2007 Author Report Posted August 28, 2007 By good neighbourhoods I mean safe. MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, and MTS all seem like good locations.
thereuare Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Since you haven't yet bid on the MTS or UM/CPS zones you need to backtrack a bit...At the 4* level in NYC you have two re-bid zones available.
