avc73 Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 I'm trying to get a room in downtown Vancouver for the night of Sept 3. Ideally I'd like a 4* room as I've gotten this a few months ago for $79. Today I tried bidding on a 4* in Vancouver at $75 and added the 4 other zones until I got up to $91. My last bid was not accepted. Can you advise a strategy of how much I should be increasing my bid?I have found an alternative 3* for $110 so I would be willing to pay that much for a 4* if I had to. If I can't get a 4* for $110 or less, then I'd like to get a 3* for as cheap as possible. Also, can you clarify if it's 24 hours or 72 hours that I need to wait until I re-bid? Thanks for your help!
Maniwaki Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Hi AVC73. I was very lucky, I guess to have been able to get a good rate. This was actually the first time that I was able to get a room through Priceline.com. I tried in the past but I was unsuccessful. I guess you just have to keep trying. You can only re-bid after 24 hours unless you try in a different zone. GOOD LUCK.
thereuare Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 The lock-out period is 24 hours.I would try as follows on you rnext round of bidding, using your 4 re-bid zones...Select 4* Downtown...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110.Any questions feel free to ask.If the above is rejected we'll then look at your 3 star options.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. avc73 Posted August 28, 2007 Author Report Posted August 28, 2007 Thanks for your help! I followed your recommended strategy through $110 and did not have my bid accepted. Then I realized that I had one more zone available so I bid $118 and was accepted at the Hyatt. Thanks so much!
thereuare Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Thank you for sharing your winning bid with the board.Glad you were successful and the board was able to help. However, there are only four re-bid zones available when bidding 4* in Vancouver, so if you added more zones than listed above, you ran the risk of winning a hotel in an area other than the Downtown zone. Be sure to clarify your re-bid zones before bidding for your next hotel stay to make sure you get what you're looking for. In this instance... all is well that ends well :)Enjoy your stay.
