spederson Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 Checking in 7 Sep, checking out 9 Sep--$54 and $65 (two separate searches). (pool/fitness/high speed/restaurant)This sounds like the Doubletree Gateway Village, but I see in the list that it says 'same as Hoilday Inn University')--I can't find evidence that the HI has turned up before, but it would be a difference of 9 miles, which would be rather disastrous as my husband needs to be downtown and won't have a car. Do you think this is a serious possibility?I was hoping to get the 2.5* Courtyard by Marriott, but it's showing $139 a night on Hotwire! ($149 rack rate on their site). Too bad, it's closer to where he needs to be and is usually cheap as chips. Thanks!Susan (plan to use Savingsbarn link when I book)
spederson Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 Decided to just chance it--I'll post the results separately above, they were a bit surprising!Sue
spederson Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 I needed a room for Friday 7 Sep and Saturday 8 Sep. When I checked Hotwire it had what looked like the identical hotel listing for Friday for $54, and for Saturday for $65. If I ran the search for the two dates together, it came up with $65 for both, so I decided to split the days.Amenities were: Customer Favourite (fitness, pool, restaurant, high speed internet)Booked it for:1 room(s) @ $54.00 per night x 1 night(s) $54.00Taxes, recovery charges, and fees $14.67Hotel subtotal $68.67 But it turned out not to be the Doubletree, which is the only 3* listed in the Hotwire list and which has the same amenities, but the Holiday Inn Charlotte Center City...this actually turned out to be much better, because it is virtually next door to where my husband needs to be the following day and where many of the other event attendees will be too. When I went to look up the second night, however, I realised that it was not the same hotel for both nights anymore--the second night listing has the same amenities posted, but without Customer Favourite. So I think that that one is the Doubletree. The Holiday Inn must not be available for the second night, and I don't think it even showed up on my previous searches--it just popped up and fooled me when I finally went to book.Apparently there is a discount code for the Holiday Inn for this event that he's going to, so I've left a message to find out what it is; if it's half decent then we'll book the second night that way so he doesn't have to switch hotels. But if it's a lot more (rack is $117 for Sat 8th) then I'll go ahead and book (what I think is) the Doubletree.long and complicated, I know...but the upshot is that the list will need to be updated to add the HI.Suep.s. used Savingsbarn link

spederson Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 Argh. Sorry for using the wrong link. But I just looked at the Travel Links at the top of the page and will use the Holiday Inn link if I go direct, or the RIGHT HOTWIRE link if I go that route.thanks for your patience!Sue
spederson Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 I see the Holiday Inn Center City has been added to the list, but you might want to add that it appeared with Customer Favourite next to it when I booked it (unlike the Doubletree Gateway Village). Looks like a good way of differentiating between the two.Sue
