Am new to this forum and have never bid on anything before. We are looking for 2 rooms in Seattle for one night either downtown or by the airport. How do I go about knowing what to bid? I have read some of the forums on the basics, but still feel like I am at sea here ....

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

What is the purpose of this stay... Seattle Airport and Downtown are two very different areas and we usuaully don't see them as options for the same stay.

What is your minimum star rating and maximum bid?

Let us know the above and we'll advise further.

The purpose of the stay is merely to sleep. We leave for a cruise on the 8th - our flight does not arrive until almost midnight on the 7th - so we will either take a room near the airport because it would be a short distance to travel from the airport the night before or we will take one downtown, using the "short" ride portion to the pier in the morning. That's why I really didn't know what to do - or how to bid - since I really wasn't sure about what star rating to choose (2*? 2.5*? 3*?) nor the area for the hotel itself. All I know is that it would cost $70 a room just to make a reservation at a Motel 6 - and I was sure I could get a better room this way, even if it cost a little more (although it would be nice if it cost a little less so we could take more with us on the cruise!).

Any help will be appreciated.

The Aiprort zone will most likely cost you much less than Downtown. Given the purpose of your stay i would stay in the Airport zone, in the am take a cab to the pier, drop off your bags, and then hopefully have a little while to walk around and see Dowtnown before embarkation.

As far as star rating and maximum bid, that's something you and your group will have to decide upon... i don't know what type of hotels you typicall stay in or what levels of service you're accustomed to.

Generally i'd recommend staying in at least a 3* when using the opaque providers, but this will also be dictated by your budget. I suspect that you'll likely be able to do better than $70 for a 3* hotel in the Airport zone.

Let us know what you in regards to a maximum bid and minimum star rating and we'll suggest a strategy to follow.

At the 3* level you have 5 re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3* Airport...

Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $70.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
