Taimur Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 Hiim new to this website and wanted help. a friend reccommended using priceline after he won a bid of $105 for a Midtown west 4* hotel. im looking for a similar deal for sept 6th-10th but would this be accepted? what do u suggest?thanks in advance
Taimur Posted August 9, 2007 Author Report Posted August 9, 2007 just to addim only really interested in MTW hotels and 4* standardmy budget is up to about $150 but thinking bout starting the bid at $100.
thereuare Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! As i'm local to the area, i'll ask how familar you are with NYC? As i tell many users, there is usually little reason to only bid one midtown zone as all the midtown zones sit adjacent to one another and ususally MTE, MTW and UM/CPS should be fine for the average visitor. As well, mass transit is readily available and inexpensive. If cost is a factor, then adding more zones also gives more hotels the ability to accept your bid.Is there a reason you're restricting your bidding to MTW only? Taimur Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 hello mate, cheers for the response. ive been NY twice previously. the first time i stayed at hotel pennsylvania as i got a decent room there. that location was good, a short walk to Time Square plus macys and other things which were local. the 2nd time i stayed at On the Avenue which proved very annoying as we would have to take a train to time square. i know its only a short journey but we found it annoying. this time around i wana try as close as possible to Time Sqaure and it looks like MTW is the best option. it looks like i will be using priceline for my hotel as other options have fallen through. after studying it a bit more, i reckon i could up to bidding $200 a night but obviously wana start with a low bid. if i was to bid for eg $100 for a 4* in MTW, and it got rejected, wats the next step. do i need to wait 72 hours to bid at an increased price or can i rebid straight away at a higher price.wat else do you suggest i do? cheers mate
thereuare Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 The lock-out period is now only 24 hours... no longer 72 hours.I'll also question how (or why?) you will spend 4 days in the Times Square area (NYC has so much more to offer) but, as my dad would say, that's why Baskin Robins makes 31 flavors... everybody likes something different. You can try to start as follows:You have two re-bid zone at the 4* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140.If/when the above is rejected post back and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours. Taimur Posted August 13, 2007 Author Report Posted August 13, 2007 i think i understand the rebidding process now. however just to confirm..i start with a bid of $120 for a 4* MTWIF unsuccessful...then i need to re-bid by changing something and not just the price.. so i should rebid $130 for a 4* MTW but also add in a zone which doesnt have a 4* hotel..how do i find that out?? then my third bid if needed should also be changed, how do i find out what zones to use?
Taimur Posted August 13, 2007 Author Report Posted August 13, 2007 ok after more reading...my two rebid zones should be MTW plus Upper West side. then the other is MTW plus Upper East Side.i read on the hotel list that there are no 4 star hotels there. is this list accurate? obv u can imagine i wouldnt wana end up in one of these zones if all of a sudden a 4star hotel as suddenly sprung up in this area and accepted my bid lolcheers mate :)
Taimur Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 lol right now after speaking to a mate about this plus more reading, i finally worked it out. i basically did exactly as you said - i rebid including UWS and then included UES.. increasing the prices by $10 each and was unsuccessful. what do you suggest i do now? cheers
thereuare Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 24 hours after your last rejected bid you can re-try:Select 4* MTW...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Taimur Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 thanks. i will do that. just to confirm, i can use the exact same rebid zones as previously after 24 hrs? ps, how annoying must it have been wen it was a 72 hr wait!! lol
thereuare Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Yes, you can repeat the same process you did previously after 24 hours from your last failed bid.So as an extreme example, if you placed your bids as follows (let's say you got tied up on a phone call between bids):Bid #1 : 10pmBid #2: 10:30pmBid #3: 11pmYou would need to wait until 11pm to start your bids again (even to try Bid#1, for which it's been over 24 hours) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Taimur Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 cheers for that. that actually did happen. its very annoying as i made my last bid at 1.30am here in the UK, and i gota wait till then to make my new bid, but i cant do that 2nite as i have an early start at work 2mrw. i will hav to bid 2mrw :)is there any reason for bidding under what i have already bid? i bid 140 yest as my final bid and got rejected, any reason why i should start at 135? just curious.cheers
thereuare Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 You 'backtrack' a little on your bids above as inventory changes all the time... what if since your last bid a new hotel loads rates $135/nite... starting at or above your previousy bid would result in an overbid. Since you have the bids/re-bids available, it pays to give the lower bid a shot. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Taimur Posted August 15, 2007 Author Report Posted August 15, 2007 ok i admit i got frustrated. i just bid at $145, $155 and then $165what next?
Taimur Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 just to add..we are available to come to NY on the following dates too..20th-24th sept. would these dates be better to come to NY, ie would they be potentially cheaper?
thereuare Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 what next?I'd suggest revisitng my comments above regarding including other zones. As well, use our BetterChecker, what is the best deal you can find for your dates, as i don't think your bids are realistic based upon current rates. Taimur Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 ok after reassessing, i dont mind bidding for another zone. i am open for including MTS and UM-CPS, MTE. wat do you suggest i do? that means i have more rebids now isnt it?
thereuare Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Yes, you will have many more bidding opportunities now...What is your maximum bid in these zones? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Taimur Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 prob bout $200 again, is that realistic?
thereuare Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 It's realistic, but i would not at all be surprised if you're not successful, but let's give it a try and see where we get.You have two re-bid zones available at the 4* level. Dalvear Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 hello mate, same guy who posted this topic here (had problems with the Taimur account) so i had to make a new one. just to update you, i changed the dates im going NY, i now need a hotel for the 19th to the 24th. thats 5 nites in total. ive tried going up to $230 for a 4 star in MTW and MTE without success. dont really wana go higher as its proving expensive. ive got a few options, i tried the first one which was bid for a 3*, i tried MTW without success. dont really wana go in any other zone for a 3*. went up to $215 for this bid.the other option is spliting my stay, which it looks like il have to do. ive loooked at the thread u posted for splitting bids. my question would be what days do u reccommend chaging the hotel? i was thinking checking in hotel 1 on the 19th which is a wednesday. staying 2 nites and then checking in at hotel 2! do u think thats a good idea, or would you reccommend stay 3 nights then 2 nites? im open to staying in 3* minimum in MTW. 4* in any of the other zones mentioned above.
thereuare Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 For SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3*? (ie- do you want to bid up to your maximum at a 4* before changing to a 3*) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Dalvear Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 yeh im willing to go up to about $230 for a 4*, but about $210 for a 3*im hoping that seeing as im staying for a shorter time at each hotel, these bids could be accepted.ps and i would like to try the 4* first, if that dont work, then il go with a 3*
thereuare Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 At the 4* level you previously stated that MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, and MTS were all acceptable, but most recently you've only bid up the MTE and MTW zones. This is peak season in NYC, as your current rejections are evidence of, and i would strongly including all possible zones in your bidding if price is important... but it's your stay so you have to be comfortable with the results.Which zones are you willing to accept at the 4* level? Dalvear Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 lol here i was thinking id book a holiday to new york in a quiet period when all the kids have gone back to school (well they have in the uk) and ur telling me its peak season! lol just my luck! any reason for it to be peak now?ok, lets say il go up to $230 with all those zones we stated earlier for the 4* hotels. (MTW, MTE, MTS, UM-CPS)at the moment i will only go with 3* MTW and MTEremember, im happy to split my bid now. again, is it better to do it 2 nites then 3. or 3 nites then 2?
