Priceline Hotel: Need 4* NYC Midtown 09/12-09/15

I've booked an unused plane ticket to NYC for Sept. 12-15 initially not aware of how high hotel prices have gone up this year. Right now I have the Belvedere on hold for $259, $259, $319 (which seems high but it is what it is) and the Shelburne Murray Hill at $270, $252, $252. I've read that the Shelburne is hit and miss and is starting renos in September so noise can be an issue. I know this is a little late in the game for a September booking but what are the odds of getting a 'better' room than mentioned above for $250-$300 with Priceline?

BTW I've never been to NYC or bidded for a room before (I'm the type who likes a guarantee that the room/location will be decent or I'll bail) and I'm travelling solo (42 year old male).

I don'want to be right on Times Square and the UWS sounds like a great area (I know the Lucerne is great but around $450 on their website).

I can't say if you will think the hotel received is 'better' than what you already have, but i do think you're chances are pretty good at receiving a 4* hotel for a bid of under $300/nite.

Priceline offers no 4* bidding in the UWS area so that really isn't an option if you choose to bid for this stay. Which zones are you willing to bid? The average user is fine with MTE, MTW and UM/CPS and these are the most common zones bid... for difficult nties (whichi i believe these are) MTS is also often added into the mix.
