dandg Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Hi Folks,Have booked a trip to NYC from 24th November 07 to 1 December have had a look around the site and am getting more confused by the minute :) Do you think I would be mad to bid for accommodation now or should I wait a while? Also, it has been suggested by friends to stay in MTE and MTW. Would love to get 4* but I know it's a really busy time of year. Would a max bid of $200 dollars be realistic?I would appreciate your suggestions and advice :) Confused in IrelandAka. DThanks!
thereuare Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Nobody can say now exactly where the NYC hotel market will be in Nov/Dec of this year, but based upon this past year $200 would not likely be enough for a 7 nite stay. However, by bidding early you have the advantage of time on your side, but also since it is so far away, you may get an "outlyer" property that is mis-priced relative to where rates should be (as may currently be available... read on :)If you search HOTWIRE there is a 4* hotel in the Midtown Central zone for $250/nite (the other 4* hotels available for this time period are $400+). The amenities for this property match the Le Parker Meridien so that would be our best guess as to this hotels identity. You can also take this and try to beat that price by bidding on Priceline, but if you do so, i'd also recommend bidding the UM/CPS zone in addition to MTE and MTW... all three are fine for the average tourist and including this zone will give you more bidding opportunities as well as give more hotels the ability to accept your bid.Let us know if you want to take the HOTWIRE offer (noting that it is above your budget mentioned above) or, if you'd like to try to do better on Priceline, if you're willing to add the UM/CPS zone to your bidding... we'll then suggest a strategy for you to try. dandg Posted August 8, 2007 Author Report Posted August 8, 2007 Hi All,First (and last) time I posted was back in January when I originally booked the flights to New York. Time has slipped away and I now really would like to get accommodation sorted for our stay. I am considering the following areas: MW, ME, MS, UM/CPS. A maximum bid of $250 a night? Can anyone help me and tell me where to start?Le graDx
