Germany Cologne Marriott

Stayed here for 2 nights and was very happy with the Marriott. It's really underrated by Priceline with 3 stars.. by German standards, a solid 5 star hotel. The Marriott is quite new, and thus everything in the hotel is rather brandnew and in excellent condition. The lobby is quite huge with several levels and a nice cosy hotel bar. The lobby is very light during the day because of the glass pyramid above it.

The hotel is very centrally located, within walking distance to both the central train station and the Dom (cathedral). We got a room facing the large (and closed) inner courtyard - so a very quiet room too.

Check-in was extremely friendly and all the room preferences were honored (except for high floor room - due to my wish for a smoking room). The parking ticket could be modified to a 3-day-ticket with unlimited in/outs (however expensive with 22 Euro per 24-hrs-period). We were offered an upgrade to club floor for 49 Euro surcharge per night, which we denied (it's well worth the price if you're into breakfast, as breakfast is charged with 23 Euro per person). There are rooms with shower only and rooms with shower/tub (I assume). We were asked and went for a room with a shower cubicle only (which was perfect for us).

The room was nice and comfortable (new Marriott beds), and a little bit non-standard in terms of layout (more like a small "L"), quite nice. The furniture was solid and fitted well with the whole design of the hotel. Bathroom nice too. Nice black-white photos of Cologne on the walls and one flower-picture. Coffe/teamaker in the room and rather large TV set (not TFT). The windows (two actually) could be opened towards the inner courtyard. We ordered room-service one evening after midnight and there's only a limited choice after midnight, but you can still order a pizza or roastbeef, so ok. Nice food, nicely decorated (one rose too) and tasty. Short delivery time. By the way, from channel 1 on the TV set you can spy in the kitchen.. funny.. and somehow strange.. (including original sound).

So what can I say? You can feel yourself lucky if you get this great hotel on Priceline. While the service level is quite similar to the Renaissance one's, the Marriott is however the superior hotel due to its modern rooms and facilities.
