tnochomson Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Bid $126 for 5 Star Strip Area - it was rejected about two weeks ago on Priceline.Being impatient and not wanting to wait until our trip was within a week of our stay, I waited until now and rebid on Priceline.Bid $105 for 5 Star Strip Area - accepted on Priceline.I lowered my price based on posts on this message board. I also looked at Hotwire, which was offering a 5 Star on the Strip for $130. After doing a little of my own research I found that it appeared likely to be for the Venetian as well.
thereuare Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding!Nice job on landing the V... glad we were able to help. With rates in Vegas changing so quickly and frequently i think you were right to pick your <reasonable> price, wait for it to come to you, and then take it when you could.Enjoy your stay and good luck in Vegas! bbbb Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Did you only bid once or did you use rebids to get this price?Theres a lot of free rebids for the Venetian.
tnochomson Posted April 4, 2004 Author Report Posted April 4, 2004 No I didn't use rebids.I actually did a lot of research to see what was being accepted for a 5 Star hotel in that zone. I found that the Venetian was just about the only 5 Star hotel accepting from Priceline. My research told me that it's better to wait until your travel dates are the closest (usually within a week). Since I wasn't comfortable doing that I figured I'd wait a week or two between bids, make a backup reservation that I can cancel just in case, and keep offering the rate I've seen them accept (which was around $100).I was mostly surprised that it was acceped so far in advance though. My reservations are about 5 weeks from now.Great site here. Thanks "thereuare" !!!!
bbbb Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Rebids are fool proof in Vegas for a 5*, as there are no other areas then the strip with a 5* hotel in it.That holds true as I write this but always double check this before bidding.$99 is the lowest we have seen that hotel come up for in a long time.Almost anytime you see a 5* on hotwire for the strip for $125 or less you can get the Venetian for $99.
sdduuuude Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Does this mean that if you don't see any 5*s in Hotwire, it is pointless to bid under $125 for a 5* on Priceline?D
thereuare Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 As it doesn't cost anything to place a bid i wouldn't use the word pointless, but it greatly reduces the chances. I think the point of that comment was a method to sort of monitor deeply discounted rates so that a user could get an idea of when a good time to bid would be and not get frustrated bidding every 72 hours and getting rejected. bbbb Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 I got the Venetian on a weekend in Nov or Dec when there was no 5* on hotwire.
