merkurmaniac Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 My wife and I are arriving on a cruise ship Aug 17th at 7am. We'll be toting a lot of luggage. Is it worth it to pay extra for a close in 4* hotel, or do most 3* hotels offer a shuttle of some kind. If I have to take a $20 cab, I would probably prefer to throw that $20 at the hotel instead. We plan on spending the day walking Stanley park and the city in general, so getting around is not such a big deal, but the luggage might be a pain....Am I overly concerned with the luggage ?? Is a 3* a little further away that big a deal ?It looks like the rates in Vancouver are up lately, I guess due to cruise folk like me.?? What's the going rate nowadays ?TIA,Richard
thereuare Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!I don't think you're going to get a shuttle from the pier with a 4* but not with a 3*... most likely you'll be taking a cab to the hotel (especially with all the luggage). As well, i don't think the 4 stars are adjacent to the cruise terminal while the 3 stars are further away. I would therefore gauge your quality level based upon your budget and what type of accomodations you're accustomed to staying at.Resolve that you're going to pay for a cab ride and give the driver a nice tip for the excess luggage... you'll have a much more pleasant trip not worry about what will happen when you get off the ship.As well, there are two cruise ship terminals in Vancouver. Check out our sister site: Hotels By The Pier for the location of each (and the hotels surrounding each). Then look at the priceline maps and let us know which zone(s) you're willing to bid, as well as your maximum bid and minimum star rating... we'll then be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow. merkurmaniac Posted August 4, 2007 Author Report Posted August 4, 2007 THanks for the fast response. After I had posted my question, I found that same sister site that you mentioned. It looks like there are tons of options and I had kind of arrived at the conclusion that you had suggested. The reality is that we are probably going to be just fine with a 3* hotel, as we usually don't spend real long lounging around in them anyways. Besides, after a seven night cruise, we might be sick of each other by then anyways, heh heh.I will do some reseach and find out how far we can handle being away from the city center. It looks like a 4* is probably in excess of $130 right now. I guess I will browse and see the going rate for the 3*'s...
merkurmaniac Posted August 6, 2007 Author Report Posted August 6, 2007 Accepted bid on first try tonight. It had been turned down in the past, IIRC.
