hwlngwlf Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Hi, great site. Could you help me ID this hotel. The amenities listed are: Complimentary Breakfast, High Speed Internet, & Fitness Center. This will be my first trip to NY for the Wife's birthday and I'd like to spend more on enjoying the City than paying for a hotel room. Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Unfortunately the above property has not yet been identified. However, i would seriously caution you against buying an opauque 2* property in NYC. Rooms are notoriously small to begin with, and while you may get a 2* property that is acceptable to you, you may also get one that isn't.I do have an idea depending upon your needs... is split bid an option? Would you consider staying in Jersey City (NJ) for part of your stay, if the hotel was near a PATH station (a train that takes you into NYC in about 15 mintues). If so i think i see the potential for substantially increasing your accomodations for about the same price as above... but of course for part of your stay (2 nites out of 4) you'll be in Jersey City instead of NYC. One perk of Jersey City (besides the cheaper rates) is that you get a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline... the downside is that you lose the "vibe" of being in NYC.Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise further. hwlngwlf Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 I'd rather stay away from Jersey or splitting. I'm open to staying anywhere midtown for around $150. Is this reasonable for a 3*? The wife's only stipulation is a private bath, otherwise I'd book something like the Pod or Hotel 17. Do you think I'd get better results using Priceline instead?
thereuare Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I'm open to staying anywhere midtown for around $150I wouldn't rule it out... but i'd be a little surprised if you were successful at that rate. If you let us know exactly which zones you're willing to bid we can suggest a strategy for you to follow. If you do go with the hotwire property above please use our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase and be sure to let us know what it is so we can add it to the Hotwire Hotel List.Let us know how you'd like to proceed. hwlngwlf Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 I would prefer a 3* or 4* Midtown East or West, but Midtown South and Central Park South is fine as well. Would you also recommend staying in the Upper Ease/West sides? I can probably go as high as $170 for a 4*.
thereuare Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Did you want to try for a 4* up to your limit ($170) first or for a 3* for less? (ie- would you prefer a 4* at $170 or a 3* at $150?) hwlngwlf Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 I'd prefer a 4* for $170 and would be ok with a 3* for $150. Thanks again for all your help.

hwlngwlf Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 Thanks a ton Thereuare. I will try this bidding strategy for the next few days using the savingsbarn link. If I don't get it for the price I want, I'll probably just stay at the Pod with the shared baths.
