Gurmit Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Hey Guys,I'm planning a trip to NY with a pal from the UK and I'm in need of accommodation for 3nights. I would prefer to be close to Times Square as this is my first visit to NY. :) I'm pretty new to this whole bidding process but a friend advised how he used the site and managed to get 5nights in the NY Hilton for $105 a night. :) Can you please advise a starting bid, I did try $104 but that's been rejected and I've been told to ask the experts before I place any further bids, so I really would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks in advance G
thereuare Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is MTW the only zone you're willing to bid?Not sure how familiar you are with NYC but it's a very large, yet compact, city. Public transportation is relatively inexpenisve and readily available that most midtown zones (MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, and sometimes MTS too) work fine for the average visitor. Including more zones expands the number of potential hotels which can accept your bid, as well as increase the number of bidding opportunties you have per bidding cycle. What is your maximum bid? (so that we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher than you're willing to bid)Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Gurmit Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 Thanks for such a speedy response, Ideally as it's my first visit I would like to be in the heart of the action without worrying about cabs over the 3nights and have been advised that MTW is a good option, but I'm open to suggestions. Our budget is $210 a night.ThanksG
thereuare Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 If you're only bidding 4* hotels i think you'll be fine, and feel that you're "in the action", at any of the MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS zones. If you later decide (or have to) lower your star quality to 3* then i would have a difference of opinion, but at the 4* level on pricleline i think you'll be fine with any of the three zones mentioned earlier. There are so many 'pockets (of action)' in NYC that you won't be near them all no matter where you stay... taxis, subways, and busses are part of everyday life of NYC and you should plan on using them extensively (especially in the subways, followed by busses, followed by taxis... except late at nite when out of town visitors are usually most comfortable with a taxi). With that said, it's not my trip... it's your vacation, so you will need to be the one happy with the results. Let us know your thoughts regarding the the zones and we'll advise further. Here are two suggested threads for additional reading as well:Hotels Near Times SquarePriceline NYC Zone DescriptionsAny further questions to help you make a decision feel free to ask.
