Ashley21 Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Any suggestions for a successful bid through priceline for a room in Manhattan 8/3 - 8/8? Either a 3* or 4* is fine. I was hoping to spend no more than $200 per night. I've tried several variations of prices and locations the past week and a half. Yesterday, I was unsuccessful in all Manhattan areas with a bid of $240 (4*). Any chance that priceline will bite the day before check in? I do have a 3* confirmed with average nightly charge of $285. I'd prefer areas in this order: MTW, MTE, MTS, UM/CPS. As I've never been to NYC, I thought that the upper east and upper west sides may not be the best locations for us - same with the DT/Soho district. I'm just getting the hang of the various ways to rebid. Thanks for any advice, only have a few days left before we leave.

Ashley21 Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 Yeah, I researched the various webstites this morning to see what rates would be if I split Fr-Sa-Su and Mo-Tu. It didn't look like rates being offered would be worthwhile. If I'm only going to save a tiny bit, it would be worth more staying where I'm at now. Plus I wouldn't know where I could get back up hotel if only one of my splits were accepted by priceline. I did find a 4* mystery place for approx $260 that I might try as that'd save me $150 total - if it's still available. I was really hoping that priceline would come through for me... thanks for you input
thereuare Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I asked because i did have somthing in mind :)You could book a 1BR suite at the Beekman Tower for $217/nite for 8/3-8/7 (very good reviews)... leaving just the sole nite of 8/7 to make alternate plans.Does that work well for your needs? Ashley21 Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 This could definitely work if you feel that this place is not too far off the beaten path to be walking to other sights or to subway... Where do you suggest I try for the 7th? I've only got 3 days to try. Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Where is your back-up? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thereuare Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 The Beekman and the Park Central are very different... the Park Central location is more central but the Beekman is a better hotel and you'll have a LOT more space. The Beekman is about just over a 10 minute walk to the subway, bus near the door to take you there if you dont' want to walk, and another plus is near by favorite bagel/breakfast stop Ess-A-Bagel makes for a great, inexpensive, breakfast (Third Ave and 51st St). You'll still feel "connected" enough to know that you're in NYC. Between the two i would choose the Beekman (just compare the reviews of each) but i also like the convenience of the larger space of the 1BR suite, as well as having a refrigerator to keep snacks, soda, etc... i think each has a different personality and the Beekman is more inline with my style. As far as the last nite, how about the Millennium Broadway for $258/nite?If you go with the above please use our Beekman Tower link as well as our Millennium Broadway link to begin each purchase.Let us know what you decide of if we can be of further help. Ashley21 Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 Thank you so much! Any idea what size bed is at the Beckman? We could get by with a Queen, but would prefer a King. I couldn't find out this info through websearches. I'm going to sleep on this because, I'm seeing double after trying one last time with priceline in every way shape or form. After all said and done, I couldn't even get a 3 star for $259 for the 5 nights. It's just getting too late. I realize I risk the chance of losing the rooms, but I need to wait. If you can think of anything where we could stay the entire 5 days, that would be optimum. thanks again!!!
thereuare Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 To stay all 5 nites at one property would cost you much more (as you have discovered) and at a lower star quality. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Ashley21 Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 Ok, after sleeping on it, I'm feeling good about your selections. We're seeing the Phantom of the Opera on the night of the 7th, so the Millenenium sounds like a perfect location. One can only assume that the Millenium can store our bags so that we can move over in the morning and get on with our sightseeing. Now, to book, do I just select the HOTWIRE link from your message(s), or do I need to go to savingsbarn and link from there. Again, thanks for all of your help!
Ashley21 Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 I blew it! O followed your hotel links and neither properties have availablilty. Sorry for your troubles with me - maybe it helped somebody else. Anything else pops into your head, and I'll jump on it this morning...
thereuare Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 The Millennium Broadway still does have availability for the nite of 8/7... but it's a moot point now since the Beekman Tower is not available for the first two nite of your stay. Ashley21 Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 In hindsight, I should have just booked the rooms last night before heading to bed and then cancelled this morning had I decided I made the wrong decision after sleeping on it! Live and learn I guess.
