Priceline Hotel: 4* Chicago (NMA-River North) Millennium Knickerbocker

Not terrifically happy with this price, especially as the MK has some really awful reviews. Individual hotels such as the Hyatt Regency and others had some amazing deals on 4* hotels in great locations down there... maybe teaches me to wait a little longer and bide my time. Ah well. Hope it's not as bad as most of the reviews make it out to be!

I don't think the 'lesson' here is to have waited longer, but rather to have researched rates better before bidding. You have to weigh your best available rate vs. taking the 'risk' of an unknown property. If there are hotels in the zone you'd rather not stay at, then you shouldn't bid the zone (or only bid an amount for which you think the porperty is acceptable), or go with HOTWIRE where you can take an educated guess as the property beforehand.

Best rate i see on this hotel's website is $179, so i do think you got a good deal and a substantial discount.

Feel free to ask for help before bidding for your next stay.

The MK is an older property in the North Michigan Ave. area. It's a hotel with a lot of history (it was rumored to be a Capone hideout in the 20's and was the Playboy Club for a while in the 70's) Rooms are small and room condition is hit-and-miss (it will be undergoing renovations later this year, apparently - I'm surprised it wasn't bought out in the wave of hotel buyouts that happened in the city earlier this year/late last year), but I don't think it's as bad overall as its worst reviews make it out to be. The 4* rating is definitely questionable, but I can say that about the Hyatt, as well. Again though, not as bad as the worst reviews, I think.
