triple50 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 I'm trying to get a 4* hotel in Manhattan for 9/5-9/8. Preferred areas are MTW and MTE but am not too picky. If I can find any 4* hotel in Manhattan for under $175 I'll be happy. Do you think a max of $175 is too low? I've seen some people getting 4* for $130-$150 so I'm pretty optimistic. Thanks
thereuare Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Based upon current rates i'm doubtful that $175 will be enough for these dates, we can certainly help you give it a try, but to get some perspective, what is the best rate you're able to find at a 4* hotel thru conventional means for these dates? What is your gameplan if you can't find a 4* hotel for $175 or less for these dates... book a lower star rated hotel, raise your maximum bid, cancel trip, etc??If you want to try bidding nonetheless, are you willing to accept any NYC zone? triple50 Posted July 24, 2007 Author Report Posted July 24, 2007 Here is a list of some of the hotels in the area and the rates I found for my stay.MTEBarclay - $452/nightGrand Hyatt - $452/nightOmni Berkshire - $559/nightMTS70 Park Avenue Hotel - $405/nightMTWHilton New York - $379/nightMarriott New York Marquis - $419/nightSheraton Hotel and Towers - $352.32/nightRenaissance New York - $489/nightWestin Times Square - $502.33/night I could probably go up to as much as $215 for a 4* but wanted to avoid spending that much. Before looking at Priceline I was looking at hotels that were probably in the 2-3* range for the low $200s. Was also thinking about staying somewhere in Jersey if I have to book through a hotel. Trying to have as much spending money as possible. I wanted to try a 4* as I really couldn't find any negative reviews for the 4* hotels but some of the 3* were questionable. I really want to stay in Manhattan so I think if the 4* is pretty unnatainable at my price range I could bid at 3*. I just read some reviews talking about bed bugs and mice at some of the 3* that scared me off. Thanks for the help! :)
thereuare Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 So what is your current limit for a 4* property in NYC and exactly which zone(s) are you willing to bid? (include Downtown?) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
triple50 Posted July 24, 2007 Author Report Posted July 24, 2007 I would say $200 would be my limit for a 4* and if I get nothing I'll drop down to a 3*. Location wise my preferences are MTW, MTE, and MTS but would just as easily stay in SOHO or more uptown if need be. Thanks again
thereuare Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Note that the SoHo zone is part of the Downtown zone and extends all the way to Battery Park... is this area you're currently willing to bid? What about the UM/CPS zone... most users include this in their bidding as it's generally just as central as MTE and MTW, so not sure if there is a particular reason you're not including it.Please confirm which zones you are willing to accept, and include in your current bidding, and we'll suggest a strategy. triple50 Posted July 25, 2007 Author Report Posted July 25, 2007 I will go for a 4* in any zone but in order of preference it goes MTW, MTE, UM, CPS, SOHO. If I can't get anything in any of these areas for under $200 I'll drop down to 3*. Hope this makes sense. Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 MTW, MTE, UM, CPS, SOHOUM and CPS are the same zone... did you mean some other zone? This would be my suggestion (but you can disagree as you know your needs, likes, dislikes, and purpose of this trip better than i do)...Be willing to accept any 4* in MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, and MTS... try that up to (or near your maximum bid) and if rejected then add the Downtown zone to your bids (since, imo, the Downtown zone is less convenient than the other four zones, but still worthwhile if the other zones don't come thru)Would the above work for your agenda?
