kwanh2 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Hi there,I've been bidding on Priceline for 4* for staying in New York between Aug 16 to 22nd and using some of the strategies you've outlined for some of the other members. The maximum price I've gone up to is $165 but haven't had much luck. I'm willing to go up to $170 but would ideally like to stay in mid Manhattan if possible. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,Howard.

kwanh2 Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 Yes, it is an option. I included it in my last bid session two days ago.My most recent bidding round was this morning.
thereuare Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 At the 4* level you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTS and UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTS and MTW...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170I would try the above for the complete dates of your stay 8/16-8/22, if that is rejected then repeat with the following date combinations:8/17-8/228/16-8/218/18-8/228/16-8/208/19-8/228/16-8/19Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. kwanh2 Posted July 22, 2007 Author Report Posted July 22, 2007 Hi thereuare,Thanks for the tip. Been trying this strategy for the last couple of days through SavingsBarn.com. Not getting much luck but so far. :) I think I'll wait a couple days and try again. Might end up going the HOTWIRE route.
thereuare Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 Is there anything on HOTWIRE within your budget and star rating?Do you have a back-up reservation yet? If not, how about a 1BR suite at the Beekman Tower for $196/nite. Reviews are very good and it's cancellable up until a few days before your stay.Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? kwanh2 Posted July 23, 2007 Author Report Posted July 23, 2007 OK...I ended up getting a bid accepted for the Millenium Hilton for check in 08/16 to 06/20 for $175. It's not mid-town but I'm happy with the rate considering it's a 4* and what it usually goes for. I'll keep trying for mid-town area and maybe go with a 3* as an alternative for the rest of my stay keeping within a lower price range bid.
