gkrykewy Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Hello! I'm hoping that someone can suggest a bid strategy for downtown san francisco. I'm looking for a 4* for the dates 8/11 - 8/17. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
thereuare Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! We'll need a bit more info in order to help...As "downtown" is not a priceline zone, which priceline zone(s) are you willing to accept? What is your maximum bid?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
gkrykewy Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 Sorry about that!Zones:Cathedral HillCivic Center AreaFisherman's WharfUnion Square East - EmbarcaderoUnion Square WestMaximum bid:$130/nt - could certainly go higher if you think it prudentTHANKS!
thereuare Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 OK, first thing we need to do is make sure you understand re-bidding, as there are currently no 4* hotels offered in the Cathedral Hill or Civic Center zones. However, you have a total of three re-bid zones (not just the prior two) and you can read about re-bidding here: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedSee if you can figure out the three re-bid zones that you have. Confirm them with the board or ask any questions that you have. We'll then be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow. gkrykewy Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 Rebids appear to be Cathedral Hill, Civic Center, and South San Francisco.
thereuare Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Perfect... great! So you have three re-bid zones when bidding 4* in San Francisco.Select 4* USE...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* USW...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Fishermans Wharf...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* USE and USW...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* USE and Fishermans Wharf...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* USE and USW and Fishermans Wharf...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. gkrykewy Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 Thank you very much! I'll probably do this on Wednesday or so, and will post the results when I've got them.
gkrykewy Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 DISAPPOINTMENT! No bites, even at 130. Do you think it's the saturday night that's the problem (August 11th)?
thereuare Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 It may be the issue... if you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID i would try the above once again for the dates of 8/12-8/17. No need to wait 24 hours since your last rejected bid as changing the dates of your stay (which you're doing by changing the check-in date) is treated as an entirely new bid.Any questions feel free to ask.Let us know how it goes or if you'd rather not split the bid we'll discuss other options. gkrykewy Posted July 20, 2007 Author Report Posted July 20, 2007 Thanks for the help (again). Didn't really want to split the stay. In the meantime though, we found a unique hotel a ferry ride from the city in Tiburon (Lodge at Tiburon). Looks like we'll be paying rack rate, as it doesn't show up in any priceline or hotwire lists (hotwire has a 2.5-star hotel in Mill Valley - Sausalito - Tiburon for ~115, but it could be anything). I'll use the savingsbarn link next time I do book something through PL though.
