doublelle Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Have a convention in Chicago Oct 20-25...would need room for 19-25. Have checked Hotwire, Priceline (multiple bids)...and everything is rejected. Even hotels that others are saying they have for 99 bucks...are over 250 on hotwire...and I've bid up to 150 bucks. My conference is at McCormick Place..Any suggestions regarding how to get around sky-high "event" rates??
thereuare Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! How high are you wiling to go for a hotel? What is the star rating and zones you have bid above? How about the Hilton Palmer House for $192/nite? There's no booking fee so only about $30 more per nite than you've already been rejected for, and more importantly, it's cancellable up until 3 days before your check-in date, so at the very least you coudl use this as a back-up reservation while you continue to try the opaque suppliers and hope inventory opens up.Does this work for your needs?Your thoughts? doublelle Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 Okay - that sounds like a plan....Making sure I can cancel if I find something cheaper for the quality.I was bidding on 3,4 star and boutique hotels.Rate is a big issue...especially staying 6 nights...since the conference alone is costing me about a grand...and I'll spend NO time in the hotel what so ever.We ran into this problem last year when Madonna was in concert...rates were outrageous...but actually finding them WAY more for this. Would like to stay at Hyatt McCormick..but is sold out.
AaronJB Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 You can stay in Glenview (burb) for $79 non-refundable and take the Metra in every day. Otherwise, I'd take the Palmer House option as that would be an easy cab ride to McCormick.

doublelle Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 Yes - Hotel Indigo for the above mentioned dates for $176.00 per night - done. Now, I just have to figure out the transportation system to the conference everyday!!
AaronJB Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 The Indigo's wonderful - you'll love it.Don't look at Hotwire's "retail prices" - the actual price of the Indigo for these dates is $300 a night.
thereuare Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see that you have found a resolution for this tough stay and that you received the hotel you were expecting with your HOTWIRE purchase.
