Hi - this is my first time with Priceline and first time in NYC. We are going for 8/31 through 9/3. We'd like to stay in a 4* in Manhatten, preferably MTE but MTW would be okay. Tips for bidding would be appreciated! I've already bid for $111 because I saw someone else get that price for MTE for similar dates, but I got rejected. I added other zones without 4* hotels twice and increased the bid by $5, but got rejected both times. TIA!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Is there a reason you're not including the UM/CPS zone in your bidding... most consider it just as convenient as the other two zones you've already bid and including it will give you more bidding opportunities (as well as increase the number of hotels which could accept your offer).

What is your maximum bid?

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

No, I just liked the hotels in MTE and thought I could have more control, but I guess that was a silly notion. I have no qualms with including UM/CPS. My max bid is probably $200 per night. Otherwise I'll probably just go the conventional route. Thanks!

I would begin with the following:

At the 4* level you have two re-bid zones avaialble. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTE...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* UM/CPS...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and MTW...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160.

If the above is rejected don't get discouraged (as the above may be a little low at the moment, but worth a shot)... just post back and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Labor Day is not usually a busy time in NYC, but overall hotel demand has been getting much stronger and we've seen a steady rise in prices over the last few years.

If you're willing to bid up to your limit you can repeat as follows:

Select 4* MTE...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* UM/CPS...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and MTW...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS...

Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $200.

If the above is rejected (or you may even want to re-think your $200 maximum bid) i'd suggest booking the Affinia Dumont for $235 thru GTA Hotels (please use this link) as it's a great deal for this property and it gets fantastic reviews.

Any questions feel free to ask. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Well, after bidding off and on for weeks, I finally won. I got the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in MTW for $201 per night. It came out to $238 with taxes and fees. I had tried various combinations of bidding every day or so based on thereuare's suggestion, but never went past $175 until today. I've seen several posts with similar dates who have won for $200, so I figured that was what it would take. That person who got a hotel for $111 that I saw early on sure lucked out! I thought about booking a back up and trying over the next month, but I was getting pretty sick of bidding and decided $200 for NYC really is not a bad price. Today I started at $160 and worked my way up to $200, adding different zones each time and jumping in $10 increments.

As for the actual hotel I won, I'm pleased with the location and price. I can't say I'm super excited about the actual hotel. Although I like Sheratons, the reviews are mixed on Trip Advisor, and I was hoping for a hotel that was a little more sleek and modern, but the whole point of Priceline is you never know what you are going to get! In the end, I didn't want that stuff bad enough to pay for it. I certainly have a champagne taste on a beer budget! It seems like a 4* in NYC is really just a 3* anywhere else, but as long as it is clean, convenient and reasonably priced, I'm happy. Good luck bidding everyone and thanks for your help thereuare!
