dtwlin Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 I am trying to get a hotel in mtw or mte on August 1-4. I have been trying for a week from $120-$160. I am flexible to go all the way up to $200 and maybe a bit more, but wasn't sure if I am bidding early. Prices seem a bit high right now. For example the Hilton Times Square is above 500. Are prices usually that high and drop off or does that mean it is in high demand? I looked and didnt see any conferences. Thanks,Dan
Mr_Conlin Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 I am trying that exact same trip, and am having difficulty as well. I'll start a new post once I see some activity.
thereuare Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Prices seem a bit high right now. For example the Hilton Times Square is above 500. Are prices usually that high and drop off or does that mean it is in high demand?I think that rate at the Hilton Times Square is an "outlier" as i'm not finding rates that high elsewhere. This stay is just three weeks away so i don't think it's too early, although it is possible that rates could drop in the coming weeks if actual bookings come in less than expected or if the hotel(s) get more cancellations than expected.Do you have a back-up reservation anywhere at this point? If not i see the Beekman Tower has a 1BR suite for $217/nite and perhaps that would be a good back-up for you? (i woudln't bother trying for the Studio Suite which is "on request" since this hotel rarely gives them additional inventory)Let us know regarding a back-up property and we'll then be able to better advise if you should increase your bid, based upon knowing your "next best" alternative. dtwlin Posted July 14, 2007 Author Report Posted July 14, 2007 My backup right now is Milford Plaza in Times Square at about $215 a night. But i am seeing that the Beekman tower might be much better! Thanks,Dan
dtwlin Posted July 14, 2007 Author Report Posted July 14, 2007 Apparently, Milford is a 1 star hotel according to trip advisor. The site I was looking at had listed it as a 3 star. Anyway, I booked the beekman hotel as my backup. Thanks for the tip. I actually wont be too dissapointed if I end up at that hotel and don't get something from priceline.
thereuare Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 Switching from the Milford Plaza to the Beekman is an easy decision!Since your back-up is $50 more than you've currently bid, do you now want to increase you current maximum bid? If so, to what? ($180?, $200?) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dtwlin Posted July 14, 2007 Author Report Posted July 14, 2007 I am willing to increase up to $200. I have been looking at some new hotels and a lot look pretty nice. The holiday inn express fifth avenue actually looks good. Yes, it is a smaller building, no restaurants, bars, excercise equiptment, but the room looks good. Are there any other new hotels in New York that I can find for a good price? Ammenties aren't too important. Also since the hilton times square is so expensive, does that make it more likely that I will get the Millenium Broadway if I get a win at MTW?
thereuare Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 There are many other 4* hotels in the MTW than the Hilton Times Square and the Millennium Broadway. Given the rate at the Hilton Times Square i would think that the chances of you receiving that hotel are slim... but i wouldn't necessarily think the Millennium Broadway is the next likely candidate. I can't say what the next likely candidate is, but the Hilton New York and Sheraton New York are both seem more frequently than the Millennium (although i have looked at rates at any of the previous three properties)I also just noticed that you're only bidding the MTE and MTW zone... is there a reason you're avoiding the UM/CPS (and even the MTS) zone(s)?Let us know regarding the zones and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. dtwlin Posted July 14, 2007 Author Report Posted July 14, 2007 MTW and MTE was just for convenience. I am open to UM and MTS
runchick Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 MTW and MTE was just for convenience. I am open to UM and MTSI am really curious to see what you get, as I am also needing a room for Aug 2-5, but need 2 double beds. I want to see what hotels priceline is returning in this price and zone so I can see if they have rooms to accomodate this. Please post your results when you get them! Thanks
thereuare Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 runchick,Hopefully you can see the irony.Don't you think that others were following your Priceline NYC thread last year and could have benefited from your own results/conclusion... yet no follow-up you thread. :) A reply to our previous message would be appreciated as well :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thereuare Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 dtwlin,Since you haven't bid the other two zones yet, you have to go back a bit (and also gives an opportunity to see if any inventory has opened up). At the 4* level in NYC you have two re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/UPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTS...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW and MTS and UM/CPS...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200.Any questions feel free to ask.Good luck and let us know how it goes. dtwlin Posted July 20, 2007 Author Report Posted July 20, 2007 From what I have seen, people have been getting last minute deals a few days before. I think we both should be fine with 200 max. If not, i like my backup, the time hotel.
