masoud Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 I am planning a visit to New York from July 6 to July 9. Can you guys help me with a bidding strategy for a room under $100/night? I am thinking about a 2*-3* hotel in MLE, MLW or Midtown South although I am open to any other suggestions.Thank you so much!
thereuare Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! We'll suggest a strategy in a moment, but are you sure you really want to set your minimum star level at 2 stars? :) While there may be 2* hotels in NYC which you'd be comforable with, there are likely hotels that you'd rather not stay at, and you can't pick which type you will get when using the opaque providers. As well, since your stay is just a few days away, do you have a back-up reservation anywhere near your maximum bid... we typically dont' see sub-$100 bid acceptances in NYC (although perhaps that's because we rarely see bidding for less than 3 star hotels in this area) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
masoud Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 there may be 2* hotels in NYC which you'd be comforable withOne like the Pod Hotel? (I found it via EasyClickTravel link in this forum.) The price is $112/night for a private bath room. It is "on request" for Saturday night and available for the other two nights. Are there any other clean hostels you may suggest? Also,Based on your suggestions, I am not going to take a risk for a 2* hotel. If I increase my minimum bid to around $120, is there any chance for getting a 3* hotel?I appreciate a quick reply since I am traveling in a few days! :) Thanks
thereuare Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 The Pod is one of the better ones... but since the property is 'on request', the rate is non-refundable, and you're stay is just a few days away, i'm not sure if you have time to wait the 48 hours (sometimes longer, especially with the holiday tomorrow) for them to get back to you.You mention MTE, MTW, and MTS, as well as any other suggestions, and given your budget, i'd recommend also including the UM/CPS zone. I'm including this in the suggested strategy below, but if you aren't willing to stay in this area then post back before bidding and we'll revise accordingly. At the 3* level you have one re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* MTE...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTS and MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125 (if you want)Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
