johnnyb Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 first bid $70 NMA River Northsecond bid $81 NMA River NorthI thought I would be getting the Intercontinental as that what the recent winning bids were getting. The Wyndham will be fine.
AaronJB Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Welcome to Better Bidding, and thank you for reporting your win! :)The Wyndham is a very nice, very modern business hotel with regular rooms that are bigger than the average regular room at most downtown hotels. It's 1 block from Michigan Ave. and there's a Corner Bakery across the street if you want a quick bite. The hotel is very clean, well-maintained (I have bad allergies to dust and I think the Wyndham has probably been one of the few downtown hotels where my dust allergies have not been an issue) and I think the public areas are pleasant and elegant. I actually like the hotel (spacious rooms w/ large bathrooms, overall cleanliness, its sort of pleasantly minimalist design, nice public areas) a good deal actually. The service, however is inconsistent and often average at best. However, I've said it before about this hotel and I'll say it again: watch your bill. They have some sort of deal with priceline regarding a deposit that priceline pays if the customer does not show up (this is what I've been told.) that is supposed to be taken off if the customer does check in. It's unusual and I don't quite get it, but nevertheless - I was charged it once and nearly charged it again the second time I stayed there. When I was charged it the first time, it was a big pain to get it taken care of. It's the same fee - it's about $86 and change if I remember correctly. Again, I like this hotel (overall) and am happy to get it, but always have to watch the bill. What I'd recommend is to watch the bill on the in-room TV screen and be sure to check out at the front desk instead of checking out via the in-room TV.
johnnyb Posted June 30, 2007 Author Report Posted June 30, 2007 Thanks for the tips. I will watch the bill. Any info on the parking in that area? I've stayed in downtown Chicago a few times and seem to end up a lot at the Hyatt Regency because of (a good) price. Was glad to get a good price at a different location.
