TorontoGeorge Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Hello I will be travelling to NYC from August 22nd and Leaving August 25th, I would like a 3* hotel in any of the above zones (MTS, MTW, UM). I have bid up to $145 already with no luck. My max price is $160 a night. Do I have a chance at a reasonable hotel in this area? Is it to far away to book a room? How is the end of August for hotels in this area (busy, expensive, etc.).Thanks for the insight!
thereuare Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!NYC is usually inexpensive (relatively speaking) in the summer. When was your last rejected bid? (i assume that bid included all three zones at a bid of $145?) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
TorontoGeorge Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 Hello,Thanks for the welcome, I was rejected yesterday night at 8pm for all 3 zones at $145.
thereuare Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Quick question before suggesting a strategy...Is there a reason you're avoiding the MTE zone? I think that may be one of your 'better chances' for this stay... but not sure if you're not including it because of a particular hotel you're trying to avoid or any other reason.Let us konw and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. TorontoGeorge Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 Hi again,The reason we are avoiding MTE is because we don't want a long walk to visit attractions. We would rather be in a central, but louder area, than a quiter but more out of way area.I understand NYC has an excellent subway system so I don't know if my concerns are unwarranted but please let me know either way. Thanks!
thereuare Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 I think "far" is relative in NYC terms... "a little out of the way" is a 10 minute walk, but if you want to be 'in the action' then i would leave MTE out for the time being. But if the following is rejected then you want my want to re-think your zone choices as it comes down whether being a 10 minute walk ($5 cab ride) is worth saving $xx on your room cost. You have one re-bid zones at the 3* level in NYC. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-acess priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTW...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-acess priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTS and MTW...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165.The above will take you up to your maximum bid.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. thereuare Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Congratulations on your win.Is this the Murray Hill Suites at 149 East 39Th Street? If so, can you confirm that you only bid 3* or did you lower your star rating at any point? This property has previously been reported at a 2* level and appears to still be the case. Please let us know so that we can be sure the Priceline Hotel List is up to date. Thanks! Enjoy your stay. TorontoGeorge Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 Sorry guys, I won that at the last moment as I was stepping out for the weekend and didn't notice my error.I won the Shelburne Murray Hill at 303 Lexington Avenue I bid 3* for MTS and UM/CPS and this came up.Sorry for the confusion!
thereuare Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Thanks for the clarification... better than the Murray Hill East too!Two suggestions while you're in town...If you like margaritas, stop into Rio Grande for a frozen one... steep at $8+ (especially in the evening/nite when they're served in a plastic cup) but they are really good (read: potent) and the accompaning chips and salsa are equally as good. A meal here can be hit or miss... so best bet is a drink during the afternoon or one before bed. (on Third Ave at 35th St... west side of the street, at the base of an apartment building)The other reco is a good lunch stop... Jackson Hole Wyoming for one of the best burgers in the city. Also on Third Ave at 35th St (east side of the street). Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
