gradstudentclimber Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Please help me with a Priceline bidding strategy for Manhattan, 07/19-07/22.Maximum price: $125.Two guests in the room, my father and I. Two beds preferred, but one queen or larger will do.Anywhere on Manhattan is fine, but central is better as we'll be going all over.Thank you!

gradstudentclimber Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 What is the minimum star level you're willing to accept?Oh, I'm sorry I forgot that. Looking through the New York posts briefly, I noticed people shying away from 1*, so let's say a 2* minimum. Thanks!
thereuare Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 You'll notice that most people also shy away from 2* hotels (and 2.5* hotels too in NYC). While there may be some lower star rated hotels you're comfortable staying in, there are probably some you wouldn't want to stay in... and you can't choose which type you'll get when making an opaque purchase. If you want to bid 2* (or even 2.5*) we can help you do that, but be aware that at the lower star ratings, especially in a place like NYC with notoriously small rooms, you could possibly get a room with only one double bed (not a queen), which priceline does consider to 'accomodate double occupancy'.I would probably try bidding first for a 3* or higher hotel, if that is rejected i would consider booking a private bath room at The Pod for $113/nite... but do note that if you get a "twin" room it will have 2 single beds, a "double" room could have a full or a queen bed. The hotel gets very good reviews.Let us know how you want to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. gradstudentclimber Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 Thanks very much for the excellent advice. I'll go with a 3* strategy, please.

gradstudentclimber Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 I've been trying for a few days now and no luck.Has anyone here had experience with the bunk-bed, shared-bathroom rooms at The Pod?How large are the bathrooms? Will there be a wait? (I'm not concerned about waiting for the showers, just the other facilities.)
thereuare Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Note that the private bath room at The Pod has now gone to "on request" (from avaialble) since first posted so they may not even have available for that room type anymore. When listed as "on request" they need to contact the hotel to see if they can get additional rooms at their pre-contracted rate. ("available" means that they have inventory and the rooms can be booked and instantly confirmed) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
