mcremata Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Posted June 26, 2007 fyi, i tried the strategy today (only raising the final bids to a high of $130) and no luck. I'll try again next week and will let everyone know how it goes. thanks.
mcremata Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 I need some advice. I've tried this every few days and have actually gone as high as $155 and found nothing. I've also expanded to all areas with 4* including MTS, Downtown/Soho. I've read your expert opinions about bidding early and understand that as long as my dates are firm, it is generally considered a good idea as long as you have a back up cancellable reservation. All that being said, I stayed last year (2007) in NY from January 1 - January 9 at the Grand Hyatt, winning bid $108. This time I am staying January 3 - January 9 (2008) and was hoping for a similar rate. Do you know if there is a convention or something or should I expect rates to rise or fall? Any thoughts? I'm not sure if I ought to accept that my bid should be higher or if I should expect them to drop since past history is a good guide. Lastly, EasyClickTravel has a 4.5 star at $262 - any ideas what it might be? Just curious really, b/c I'm hoping to secure a room for substantially less. Thanks for any input!
thereuare Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 It will likely cost you more than $108 as the hotel market has been getting stronger and stronger over the last few years, and we've seen a gradual (sometimes sharp) increase in prices in most areas. As well, with a location such as NYC and the weak dollar, there has been an increase in foreign travellers planning their trips abroad to the US (and NYC)... this increases demand and rates follow. However, with the above noted, i would find a back-up and not bid higher at this point in time... plenty of time before your stay to continue to try and no point in trying to 'chase' this one. (imo)For EasyClickTravel "off the record" hotels, use our EasyClickTravel Off the Record lookup tool.As a back-up, you could book the Beekman Tower studio suite for $153/nite and the reviews are very good. thereuare Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.Any follow-up to your Hotwire Cancun and Florence Trip... please follow-up each of those threads with whatever you ended up doing for each stay.As well, you've previously listed your maximum bid at $120 (and bid as high as $155), and we suggested a back-up hotel at $153/nite... all of the hotels you're asking us to identify above are higher than each of these. What is your current maximum bid? Did you book a back-up as suggested (if so, where and how much?) mcremata Posted November 17, 2007 Author Report Posted November 17, 2007 i thought this was differnt b/c i'm looking for help identifying the hotwire hotels i listed. if i put it in same thread, which is under the priceline section, will i still receive feedback on hotwird hotel identification?i had planned, w/ more than 6 months notice, to try my luck at bidding w/ a $120 max, considering my win last year, same dates at $108. now that it's getting closer, i'm looking at the options and interested to know which hotels are on hotwire for my dates so that i may act accordingly. can you id the hotels i listed? i don't necessarily have a max. not looking for additional strategy assistance now. thanks for the help w/ the identification.

mcremata Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 update... after bidding for all zones (except downtown/soho) finally settled on a win for MTW hotel Millennium Broadway for $207 a night. not thrilled, considering it's nearly double what i paid last year for same dates, but i'll have to deal. this is a decent hotel in a good location. i've stayed many times. thanks as always for all the helps this forum provides. of course, i booked using the savingsbarn.com link.
