RChappo Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Hello everyone.I'm new to this board and new to Priceline. I'm looking to find a hotel in NYC in August and I'm finding it a little frustrating. My parents and brother are coming over from the UK and we'd like to take them to the city for a few days. Our budget is a bit restricted and I'm seriously thinking about cancelling the plans for NYC and going somewhere less expensive else instead. But then I saw the 'Name Your Own Price' option of PL and after being a bit intimidated by it I ended up here. I haven't made any PL bids yet.My requirements are:- My party is 5 people. I want 2 rooms. (this seems to be the main sticking point)- Looking to be in the city MTE, MTS, MTW, UMT preffered but not set in stone.- Aiming for 3 nights (Tues to Fri - 21st - 24th August but can be flexible 2 or 3 days either way)- Aiming at 3* but a good 2 /2.5 * would be ok. Don't need anything fancy but would like clean and friendly. No special ammenities needed. No frills is fine. Clean is really all I'm bothered about at the end of the day.Obviously as one of my rooms would be a 3 person occupancy this is impacting the price. I've been looking online via the traditional way of booking and the place that looks ok so far is The Wellington Hotel. The double room is quoted at $169 a night. But obviously the 3 person room would be more. I'm finding it hard to get an actual price for the 3 person room - I'm just seeing "extra fees may be payable for extra occupancy" or words to that effect.I would be OK at $169 per night for a two person room. But I'm worried about the 3 person room. I wouldn't want to go a lot more for that, (maybe up to $220 or so) and these mysterious "extra charges" worry me. How much extra is extra? The questions I have are:- Am I looking for the impossible?- Is a Tue - Fri stay good for prices or would a Fri - Mon be any cheaper?- Is there anywhere I can get a suite for 5 people for a reasonable price? We don't mind all being in one room.- Thinking of trying a Jersey City hotel as we don't mind a little commute. But worried about last trains back at night. Don't want to have to rush out of the city if we're having a good time. When will the last train be roughly? So many questions I know. I'm sorry. There seems to be some really knowledgable folks on here and any advice would be very much appreciated.I've stayed in NYC once before and we ended up at the Pennsylvnia Hotel (yuck!). I don't want to make the same mistake again! Thanks.Richard
thereuare Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you're able to switch the dates a bit, could you do either 8/17/07-8/20/07 or 8/24-8/27... or does only one of those sets of dates (or neither) work? Let us know and we'll then have a look at a few date combinations and report back accordingly. One more things... i'm not entirely clear from your post above, but what is your maximum budget per room per nite?
