kellang Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 hi there - new to this priceline thing. i tried to book 2 nights (june 30-July 2) at 4* NMA-River north at $80 and $86 but got rejected both times.just wondering if i should keep trying at those dollar amounts since fawaz was able to get a room at that rate or if i should go higher.
thereuare Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are date specific, so you can't necessarily go by somebody elses winning bid when their dates are different than your own.Is NMA-River North the only zone you're willing to accept? (how about the Loop?)If you let us know your maximum bid we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. kellang Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 Thanks thereuare. Yes, NMA-River North is the only place my friends and I want to be. We are going shopping on Michigan and feel that the Loop is too far south. Another problem is that there are 3 of us and what we really want is ONE room with TWO double beds. We're students and we're trying to keep our costs down (more money for shopping!) Do you think its risky for us to only book one room on Priceline and then we'll get a room with one King/Queen bed that the 3 of us will have to share? Or do you think when we check in that we can simply ask for a room with 2 beds and it should be fine.We are willing to go as high as $120 for a 4* because we've heard people in the past were able to get that price. But I know that the Taste of Chicago festival is on that weekend so....Any opinions would be greatly appreciated....
thereuare Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 We are willing to go as high as $120 for a 4* because we've heard people in the past were able to get that price. But I know that the Taste of Chicago festival is on that weekend so....Again, you can't always use other wininng bids as a guide, expecially when there is a special event (Taste of Chicago, Music Festivals, Conferences, etc) in town.As far as three people in a room, that's a tough one... I tried searching Quikbook and if you look down the list of offerings, there are many that state: "maximum 2 people".HOTWIRE will allow you to search for up to triple occupancy, but current offerings are slightly out of your $120 budget. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? kellang Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 The best rate I've been able to find through conventional channels is $154 CDN (we're from Toronto) at the Sheraton through Travelocity. We don't want to split the bid because we don't want to move hotels. Do you think we'll be able to get a better price as we get closer to the date of travel?
thereuare Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 I'm showing a rate thru Travelocity of $169(US) for your dates... what do you see for a rate directly thru Sheraton? Could you use their "best rate guarantee" to have them honor the Travelocity price plus an additional 10%? (i can't see the $154CAD rate you're seeing so i can't comment if it qualifies or not)As far as the price coming down... it could also go up :) Rates are based upon the expected demand between now and your check-in date. If the hotel receives fewer reservations than they expect, then rates could drop... if on the otherhand they receive more reservations than expected, then rates could rise (or even sell-out). kellang Posted June 19, 2007 Author Report Posted June 19, 2007 :) just bid again on priceline....got The Drake for $110.
AaronJB Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 That's a really, really good deal for a very nice, very historic hotel in a great location. I hope you enjoy your stay and thank you for reporting your win.
thereuare Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Congratulations on your win... glad you found something within your budget. To confirm, this is a 4* hotel in the NMA zone? Do you recall the amount of your previously rejected bid? Thanks, enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
kellang Posted June 19, 2007 Author Report Posted June 19, 2007 yes - the Drake is a 4* in the NMA zone - i only selected 4* and NMA zone when I bid. I previously tried bids of $80, $86, $90 and then jumped right up to $110.Thanks for changing the subject heading of the topic to reflect my bid - I was looking for the button that would allow me to change the topic heading but is that only done by someone with admin priveleges? sorry for all my newbie questions....!
