dee_power Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Hey, read lots of good reviews about this website, I would like to find out what should be the most to pay for a 3 or 4 star hotel for 4 nights at the start of November. Also should I wait nearer the time to try and get a good deal, or could everything be booked out. Was in NY last November and stayed in Pensilvania hotel, thought location was very good so wouldnt mind staying around there again. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.
AaronJB Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Welcome to the board! :)What are your exact dates of travel?
dee_power Posted June 17, 2007 Author Report Posted June 17, 2007 Ill be arriving the 7th november and leaving 11th November. Looking at all other websites and all decent hotels are very expensive. Any advice would be great, also with priceline as soon as you put in your credit card details are you automatically charged or do you have to confirm first. Thanks
thereuare Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!should I wait nearer the time to try and get a good deal, or could everything be booked out.See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.If a hotel accepts your bid amount you are charged immediately and you 'own' the room. This is the only way the opaque model could work, otherwise users who only wanted one particular hotel in an area would bid and then cancel if they didn't receive the one hotel they were seeking, and continue to repeat the process again and again. Are you able to accept a non-refundable reservation at this point in time? What is your maximum bid? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dee_power Posted June 17, 2007 Author Report Posted June 17, 2007 As soon as I bid an amount and put in my credit card details, if the bid is excepted, i win the room, is that right??I am only willing to pay a max of $200 per night, is that very low? not very fussy about where i stay, just central and clean.Want to ensure i am in the same room for all the nights so dont really think i should split the bid.
dee_power Posted June 17, 2007 Author Report Posted June 17, 2007 Hi can someone help, saw hotel on hotwire for midtown south and it says its a 3.5 star but from looking at the list posted here, there doesnt seem to be a 3.5 star, any one any ideas???
thereuare Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.Yes, if your bid is accepted your credit card is charged and you own the hotel room for those nites. If your bid is not accepted, your credit card is not charged. Is your maximum bid $200 or is that your "all-in" price (including taxes and fees?) If your all-in price let us know your maximum bid amount (i'm guessing about $180 or so).Lastly, which priceline zone(s) are you willing to accept?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. In regards to the HOTWIRE hotel, what are the amenities associatd with the property you're being offered? dee_power Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 Hi, thanks,The total amount I would spend including taxes, etc is $200. Dont really mind which area I stay in as long as it is Midtown, all seem relatively close to most attractions.(sorry bout posting on same thread-didnt realise) On a seperate note, the hotel on HOTWIRE had a internet access, boutique hotel and fitness centre and business centre.I see this is a four star hotel but is it a good hotel??Thanks,
thereuare Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Let's backtrack one moment...The hotel offered on HOTWIRE... a few posts above you mention a 3.5* hotel but directly above you list the amenities associated with a 4* hotel. Let's wipe the slate clean on this one... please re-post the zone, star rating, and amenities HOTWIRE associates with the property. For priceline, please look at the boundaries of the priceline zones. The Midtown South zone extends as far south as 18th Street... which may or may not be what you consider to be "midtown".Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. dee_power Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 Hi,The hotwire hotel has just gone up from 229 to 327 so that is beyond my budget. It had said 3.5 star in midtown south, facilities were a boutique hotel, internet access, business centre and fitness centre. Can prices change so much overnight??In relation to the area I would like with priceline, it would be midtown west!Do I have much hope of getting a 3-4 star hotel for my price range??
thereuare Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Can prices change so much overnight??Sure can... fortunately sometimes they also go back down :)In relation to the area I would like with priceline, it would be midtown west!Do I have much hope of getting a 3-4 star hotel for my price range??You'd certainly have a better chance if you included more zones... it gives more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid as well as gives you more bidding opportunities per bidding cycle (which helps you get the best price). How come you're interested in a MTS hotel thru HOTWIRE but with priceline you'd only want to bid MTW? dee_power Posted June 19, 2007 Author Report Posted June 19, 2007 With HOTWIRE, i kind of had an idea where the hotel was as it was possible by looking at the hotwire list and facilities offered. Looked at some on priceline and they appear to be very dispersed. I would included moreareas, need to have further look. Want to be relativly close to Empire state building, times square, etc. Thanks
thereuare Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 As i often advise NYC travelers... Almost any midtown location works well for the typical visitor. NYC is so compact, and mass transportation inexpensive and readily accessible, that from midtown it's very easy to get where you're going (inexpensively). There are a few hotels which are a bit far east in the MTE zone, and while slightly less convenient, they're certainly not going to ruin a trip (and if this is a problem they can typically be avoided if keeping your star quality in this zone to 4* and above). As well, since you "want to be close to the ESB and Times Square", be sure to read our comments regarding wanting Hotels Near Times Square.
