I got several good tips from BetterBidding, so I figured that it was only fair that I update anyone interested in NYC travel. I'm checking BetterBidding every day right now, so if you get anything in these areas, please share it with the board. I've got a cancellable room as a back-up, and have been bidding only 4* in MTW, UM/CPS, and MTE using rebid zones as follows:

New York Priceline Bidding Strategy (before using, be sure to check that UES and UWS still do NOT offer 4*):

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $140, if rejected add UES...

Bid $145, if rejected add UWS...

Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* UM/CPS...

Bid $140, if rejected add UES...

Bid $145, if rejected add UWS...

Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE...

Bid $140, if rejected add UES...

Bid $145, if rejected add UWS...

Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...

Bid $155, if rejected add UES...

Bid $160, if rejected add UWS...

Bid $165, if rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and MTE...

Bid $155, if rejected add UES...

Bid $160, if rejected add UWS...

Bid $165, if rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS and MTE...

Bid $170, if rejected add UES...

Bid $175, if rejected add UWS...

Bid $180.

I just finished this, so at 9:00PM all of these currently are rejected.

I guess that I may raise my price as the weekend approaches, but I was hoping to spend no more than $180. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm in the process of looking at splitting my bid. I'm checking room availability in the areas of MTW, MTE, and UM/CPS for 3*s because the 4*s are booked on Wednesday.

Hotel - Wed June 20 - Thurs June 21 - Fri June 22 - Sat June 23

Times Square Hilton - none avail. - $399 - $299 - $299

Barclay - none avail. - $529 - $289 - $289

Meridien - none avail. - $395 - $305 - $305

I only have one option to split due to scheduling. 6/20 and 6/21 for one bid and 6/22 and 6/23 for another.

My back-up is a res at the Milford Plaza for the same dates with a rack rate of 299/179/179/179, avg 209 for 4 nights. I really wanted to stay near Times Square, and it's cheap and close. The dates, I'm afraid, are pretty much locked in stone. Further suggestions welcomed! I'm obviously a newbie.

Thanks thereuare.

If you're willing to split, you can get a great deal at the Fitzpatricl Grand Central for $159/nite thru Quikbook... hotel gets great reviews.

If that is acceptable, you can book the Beekman Tower (also very good reviews) for the first two nites of your stay, with one caveat: they don't have two nites at the same room class... only a 1BR suite ($214) is available for the first nite and only a studio suite ($192) is available for the second nite. I would think that upon check-in (or call beforehand) you could call and tell them you have two consecutive reservations and if they could block one room for both nites so that you don't have to change rooms during your stay. I woudln't think this would be a problem (unless they mention that one reservation is for a 1BR suite while the other is for a studio suite, at which point i'd give them the "ok" to give you the studio for both nites and upgrade somebody else). No guarantees they could do so, but it seems feasible.

Put all the above together and you're just about at your $180/nite average (the Beekman reservations have no booking fee which accounts for the $2-3 over $180).

Of course you could also try bidding for the first two nites of your stay.

Does this work for you? If so, please use the links in this thread to begin your purchases. For the Beekman please use our link to make the first purchase, then return here and click the link again to begin your second purchase.

I split and got 4* MTW Hilton Times Sqare 6/22-6/24 $146.

For the first two nights, the Beekman may be the way to go since I've got the Milford at 299/179 and the Beekman is 214/192, cheaper and will be much nicer to stay at. I'll look at it tonight and if the rooms are still available, I'll book them as long as they're cancellable. I still want to bid some more. I'll use the link if I book the Beekman. Thanks for the tips.
