Failure31 Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 Looking for help for a 4* (River North/Millennium, Loop, & Grant Park) 7/20-26Been bidding for serveral days, started at $75, was just rejected at $110. I wonder if the length of my trip (6 nights) is a factor? Might I have better luck bidding for two 3-night stays, bidding higher for the weekend nights? Or is it just a matter of persistence? Any advice much appreciated!

Failure31 Posted June 10, 2007 Author Report Posted June 10, 2007 Thanks very much for link to the "splitting your bid" info; it was very helpful. According to the website for the downtown Hyatt (which seems to be the hotel where most people are geting bids accepted in this date and price range) there isn't a large price difference from night to night: $219 for the first 2 nights, $239 for the last 4 nights. The Renaissance Chicago Hotel has a larger difference: $249 for the first 2 nights; $309 for the last 4. Oddly, in both cases, the weekend nights are cheaper. That makes me suspect a convention, but I checked and I don't see much of anything for that week, so I'm stumped.I'm not sure I understand your question about how much I would need to save if I were to split my bid, but my maximum bid at this point is $125.thanks again!
thereuare Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 It seems as if SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is an option, in which case you can:Book the Ambassador East for 7/22-7/26 thru Quikbook for $119/nite. This is also cancellable so if something better comes along in the next month you can always cancel and re-book.Then you could just bid for the weekend nites of 7/20-7/22, which accordingly to your research may be cheaper than the weekday nites (although i've seen hotels where the opposite is true). Please use the Quikbook link about if you go that route... then post back and we'll try to help with the remaining 2 nites.Let us know your thoughts on the above. AaronJB Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 I'd take the Ambassador East for $119. It's not the fanciest or most luxurious of downtown 4*'s, but it is in a very nice neighborhood (the Gold Coast) just a couple of minutes walk North of the North end of the North Michigan Ave. shopping area. The hotel does also have a cool history (it was in "North by Northwest" and its Pump Room restaurant has an incredible past - http://www.pumproom.com/history.html and is near the beach.
Failure31 Posted June 16, 2007 Author Report Posted June 16, 2007 Thanks everyone for the help and advice; I booked the Ambassador East for July 22-26 at $119 and just got a $120 bid accepted by the InterContinental for July 20 and 21. I'm thrilled; thanks again!
