Sorry If I posted wrong - I was intending to just post, but evidently i did something wrong (judging by your question).

What should I have done to 'Post Only'?

After I posted, I did come up with a quaetion - I looked around and got it answered. It appears from the FAQs that multiple rooms don't effect 'win rate' until I hit 5 or more, so 3 should be ok.

While I have you though . . . is there a time of day that most hotels add rooms? Should I try bidding after midnight to get newly posted rooms?

Is there a way to see a city's event schedule to see if the dates i'm traveling coincide with a big event or convention? Lalapaloza is the weekend before, but what about my dates (8/9-8/12)?

I'll go back and look at the posting guidelines - sorry if i did it wrong.

thanks

This particular weekend really does not have anything going on in terms of conventions. The rates are really not very high (well for chicago) for this weekend, so the fact that you weren't accepted is a little puzzling. I'm thinking there just isn't inventory (or much inventory) for this particular weekend yet.

What is your max budget per room per night?

I was rejected for that weekend up to 120 or 130 in both downtown zones, then I switched my weekend to the following one and have the Hyatt at $102.

My dates are fixed - we'll be in town for a Wedding.

I've stayed in SF @ the Hyatt for $70/night. I thought Chicago would be similar - I thought wrong!

My max $$ fluctuates with room size and number of people per room. I need to sleep 6 people (3 are teens) in up to three rooms with a max of $250-$300 total. We aren't worried about being snug, but many of the potential hotels (3* in the Loop area) are older/nicer/remodeled hotels that specifically state "2 persons max" on their websites(SilverSmith/Palmer/Alegro/etc). If I bid on two rooms and get a hotel with small rooms, then what? Will they not allow us to sleep 3 to a room? In the past we have actually traveled with an AirBed in one of the kids suitcases. Worked great, but will they not LET us do that?

So . . . . 2 rooms @ $125 each could work, or 3 rooms @ $100 each could work.

The Wedding has rooms blocked at the Silversmith @ $150. That's a good deal, but with a "max 2 per room" that = 3 rooms = $450/night = OUCH!

If they let us have 3/room it's pricey (2 rooms=$300/night) but works, otherwise it's to much.

Any Advice?

Are you only willing to stay in the Loop zone or could you possibly also consider the NMA zone?

Is split bid an option? If so, does one day work better/worse for changing hotels?

I have some ideas just about within your budget, so let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

I assume a split bid is 3 rooms: 2 nights in one hotel, and 1 night in a different hotel. My wife is not at all excited about that proposition. So unless the deal as absurdly sweet, I'd have to say no. The NMA area is not out of the question. The Rehersal is at the Cultural Center on Sat evening (8/11) - a cab to NMA area could still work well.

Thanks for your help - I'd appreciate any suggestions.

If you search HOTWIRE (please use this link) for 2rooms/4adults/2children there is a 3.5* hotel in the Loop zone for ~$125/nite (Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business)... matches the Hotel Allegro so that would be our best guess.

Would that work for you needs, or would you prefer to try bidding for 3 rooms (which may be tough budget-wise given your previous rejections and needing the 3rd room since priceline only guarantees double occupancy)
