Priceline Hotel: Las Vegas (Strip) August 11-13

Hi again,

I'll be in Las Vegas the nights of August 10, 11, 12 this year. I've booked the Westin for the Friday night (10th) as I have no particular plans for that night. I've heard on my other thread (Priceline Las Vegas) that Vegas in August (apart from being hot) usually has some good rates available as the hotels try to fill their rooms so am wondering what to do for the other two nights (Saturday & Sunday).

I'm due at the Venetian by 3pm on Sunday so would prefer not to have to check in somewhere on the Sunday (splitting my bid). I'd also like somewhere I can get back to quickly from or in relative comfort late on the Sunday night from the Venetian.

I've booked a cancellable backup at Harrah's which looks very close on a map (Saturday $119, Sunday $55 which seems good for Harrah's) but wondered if better options are likely to come up at similar total price, either through an opaque option or a last minute deal. Rates still seem not-so-low at the moment (best I've seen so far is a $112 avg. p.n. 4* Centre Strip on Hotwire, probably Aladdin, Ceaser's or Paris, and I haven't been game to try Priceline recently as I realise I don't want to trek back to the Westin).

So my questions:

How far ahead of time would these good deals for August usually appear? Should I be spending time on it now or are we talking about the one, two or three weeks prior to arrival?

Am I likely to be able to closely match or better my Harrah's price somewhere nicer but still close to the Venetian? Given the Saturday night is this a hopeless cause? I note Harrah's direct prices are now much higher after one of the specials ran out of availability.

Are non-opaque deals likely to be just as good for Vegas in summer as has been intimated in other threads?

Any light that could be shed on these from those with more Vegas experience than I would be greatly appreciated.

At this point i would just stick with what you have, but in the future i would suggest posting and ask for advise first as i think you bid this backwards. Since this is Vegas I wouldn't have suggested locking in a non-cancellable reservation for just Friday, nite leaving a Saturday-Monday stay 'open'. I think you could have done better splitting the stay Fri-Sun and Sun-Mon and/or not splitting the stay at all.
