bikerboy Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 We are looking for a 4* room in the midtown area from 6-4-2007 to 6-7-2007. I see some postings where some luckies are getting low to mid hundered bids and would hope to get something under $180 in the midtown area of NYC. I tried to follow the process posted in a reply by thereuare to bury730's post but once I closed the browser and re-opened another to start the next phase Priceline would not accept any more bids saying I had already made a request for the same trip although I had not requested that area, price, and star level in the first attempts as instructed. Not sure what I could have done wrong but I would really appreciate any help to get me a great room at a great price while we will be in NY.
blindman Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 Welcome to Betterbidding.Sounds like you have the plan already sorted.I can't comment on why the strategy from bury730 post didn't work.Sometimes PL web-site can be a bit flaky. No matter, you only have to wait 24hrs now before you can rebid. So long as you know what the free rebid zones are and are willing to accept the likely hotels in your selected areas then there's not much more to add.
Will Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 You may want to login and check your requests, check exactly what you bid for and be sure you didn't make any mistakes. When I was doing bidding using all the permutations possible with rebid zones I did run into the duplicate request message when it actually wasn't, so it is possible the site is a bit flaky.
thereuare Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 If you received a "dupliate bid" message i'd say it was almost certainly user error. Are you able to use the 'rejected bid' emails to see which zones you added at each stage of the bidding. Are you sure you understand Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and which zones are your re-bid zones?Based upon current rates I do think that $180 is going to be tough for a 4* hotel for these dates. You may want to consider booking a cancellable back-up... i did find Quikbook has a $234 (average) nightly rate for the Eastgate. When you search on Quikbook, once the results are shown, click the "sort by lowest rate first" and if you book the Eastgate make sure it is listed as a "book now pay later" rate as these are refundable (there are other rates, actually more expensive for this property, which are "prepay non-refundable") Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
