thereuare Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Thanks for the <extra> post :)I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this property upon your return, as a 3.5* rating for a Ritz Carlton seems a bit out of place. Thanks again for using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay. jeffri Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 I have stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Montreal in the past. It is a beautiful old hotel in a perfect location. It also has some smaller rooms in a newer addition that, while fine (and you still get to enjoy all the amenities of the hotel) are not quite 4* material. My guess is that this is a 3.5* because they are putting Hotwire customers in those rooms first - also there is no pool at the hotel. I'll be interested to hear the reports when posters who got the Ritz return from their trips. Bottom line is that this is still one of the nicest hotels in Montreal so if you appreciate nice old hotels and don't mind getting stuck in one of the smaller rooms, this could be a major-league bargain.
drubbs Posted May 26, 2007 Author Report Posted May 26, 2007 Have just found out why the "Ritz" is listed as a 3.5 Star. Ritz Carlton sold the property in January of this year, it is no longer actually a Ritz (the buyers were apparently allowed to call it Ritz Carlton, just not THE Ritz Carlton). This is of course very disappointing, but hopefully some service standard will be kept. I'll report on it when I get back in July.
