jason8612 Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 Ill be in SYD in July, and from what I saw 5* is mainly the Marriott. How is it? Would I get points for the stay? Also I really was looking into a starwood hotel. Has any been listed in the auction?I'm just debating between staying starwood and getting points, or staying in another hotel for less, but missing out on any elite status.
thereuare Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Your priceline stay will not earn points or a stay credit... although usually you can get points for any incidentals (movies, restaurant changes to your room, minibar, etc, etc)Basically you need to figure out how much it would cost thru a conventional booking, deduct the dollar value of the points you'd earn... that would be your "break-even" number for going with the opaque providers. Usually the savings thru the opaque providers makes it an easy decision.Let us know what you decide and if we can be of further help. Please note that if you go with Starwood we are an affiliate of both the Sheraton, Westin, and Four Points... please use our links if you choose to book direct. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
jason8612 Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 Thanks!I'm still debating. The marriott would be great to get a view of the opera house, but cant really priceline that. Saving a extra 100$/night for a week long trip would be great. I'll have to figure this out in the next few days and see.
dhammer53 Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 The Four Points Darling Harbor (by Starwood) is a very nice hotel. It's roughly a 20 minute walk to the ferry terminals and the Sydney Opera House. FYI. The cost on July 28 - 30 is AUD180 or USD$150.You can check prices for your dates by using thereuares link above. :)
jason8612 Posted June 11, 2007 Author Report Posted June 11, 2007 Went actually booking via Amex FHR. For instance at Cairns, I got the Sheraton Mirage for 230USD/night, with 100AUD food voucher. I tried Sydney bidding up to 110USD, and ended it there, and booked 4 points sydney for 170USD/night with full breakfast and pie. Same with Melbourne, went with westin for the 100aud voucher with stay. Plus, Ill get the points for sure and guaranteed the twin beds with late checkout etc.Working on London now for July
OSUBUCKEYES Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 I have had much better success bidding on London hotels than Sydney hotels. You should be able to find a much better deal on priceline in London if you choose to go that route.
jason8612 Posted June 12, 2007 Author Report Posted June 12, 2007 am for sure, with the current exchange rate. and how expensive hotels are in london
