Needed to book 6/27-6/30 (Wednesday-Friday nites) for our upcoming Vegas trip. We love the JW Marriott but have heard good things about the Venetian from this forum so thought we'd try both. JW Marriott website showed no rooms on 6/27 and 6/28 so chances were slim there. Venetian website room prices were $179, $199, and $259, respeciviely, for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nites.

Placed bids ranging from $119/nite to $149/nite for 5* and RESORTS, changing zones, but to no avail. Tried 5* for $139/nt a few days later and was countered that a bid of $22 more ($161/nt) would be accepted. Increased bid by $5/nt adding a new zone each time and ended up getting the Venetian for $154/nt... a 26% discount over the posted web rate. Considered splitting bids (Wed-Thurs & Friday) to get the $119/nt rate (33%-40% discount) but felt more comfortable booking all three nites at once.

When my winning bid was accepted I was offered to extend my stay at the Venetian at the same $154/nt rate... first time I had seen this option. Have to leave Saturday but $154/nt for a Sat. nite (35% total lodging discount) would have been GREAT, if that's what they were talking about!

btw... did the $20 front desk tip at check-in and landed an upgrade to a strip-view room in the Venezia tower. The $20 tip trick WORKED for me!
