tanshu Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Hi, I am a first time poster and will be visiting NYC from the 18th to 26th May. I am a singe traveler and looking for a hopefully 2.5* in Manhattan. I am looking to spend $120 a night, but am willing to go upto $150. I tried Priceline, but did not get any 2* + in the area for $110. Can anybody please give me any suggestions? I understand that I may not get this long a stay, so any suggestions how should I break the stay? Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!A few questions:If you're looking for a 2.5* or better hotel, why did you bid 2 stars?Which zones did you include in your bid? Are these the only zones acceptable to you?A few comments:I really don't recommend bidding less than 3* in Manhattan. While there may be some 2.5* and under hotels which are good, there are probably some that aren't as good, and with an opaque purchase you can't really choose which type you will get. (although admittedly $150 won't likely be enough for a 3* property for these dates) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
tanshu Posted May 8, 2007 Author Report Posted May 8, 2007 I bid 2.5* becuase I did not get anything 3* in NYC in the price range. Although I would ideally prefer to be in Mid Town, but anywhere in Manhattan will be acceptable. Also, how should I breakup my stay. I was thinking that I make one bid from the 18th to the 20th and second from the 21st to 26th. Realistically, how much should I be looking to pay for the stay in NYC. I am not looking for anything fancy, anything above a roachmotel will be acceptable.
thereuare Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 I tried Priceline, but did not get any 2* + in the area for $110Did you mean 2.5* here? (which is why i asked why you bid as low as 2 star... although you also mention 2* in your topic title)Realistically, how much should I be looking to pay for the stay in NYCAs per above, i'm confused as to your minimum star rating.I am not looking for anything fancy, anything above a roachmotel will be acceptableSee my comments 2 posts above regarding not being able to choose the hotel you receive and why, in NYC, i recommend sticking to higher star level properties. lwitchel Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Unfortunately I don't think you'll be able to get anything for your limits on those dates - regular hotel rates for that time are through the roof (I think it may be graduation ceremonies for some universities.)I had to get my brother a hotel for 5/16-21 in NYC and I think he will be staying in the cancelable backup reservation I made.
