Jon052 Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 This is my first time bidding on Priceline with the techniques from this forum. Thanks to all who have shared these tactics.I just tried the following without success:Select 4* USE...Bid $65, rejected, added re-bid zone1...Bid $70, rejected, closed browser and re-accesed priceline.Select 4* USE and re-bid zone2...Bid $75, rejected, addrf re-bid zone1...Bid $80, rejected, closed browser and re-accessed priceline.Select 4* USE and re-bid zone 3...Bid $85, rejected, added re-bid zone1...Bid $90, rejected, closed browser and re-accessed priceline.Select 4* USE and re-bid zone 2 and zone3...Bid $95, rejected, added re-bid zone1...Bid $100. ALL REJECTED TO THIS POINT.I'm fine with USE or USW, so then I tried:Select 4* USW and USE...Bid $80, rejected, added re-bid zone1...Bid $85, rejected, closed browser and re-accessed priceline.Select 4* USW and USE and re-bid zone 2...Bid $90, rejected, added re-bid zone1...Bid $95, rejected, closed browser and re-accessed priceline.Select 4* USW and USE and re-bid zone 1, 2 and 3...Bid $100. ALL REJECTED TO THIS POINT.Any suggestions? I'd rather not pay more than $100 based on the posts I've seen here.I can try again in 24 hours, but what should be my strategy then?I would appreciate any help you can offer.Thank you.
thereuare Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you've bid up to your limit than there really isn't much you can do other than:1) wait it out and try again2) lower your star rating3) raise your maximum bid4) add other zonesI don't think you're too far off though at this point, but not sure how firm you are on your maximum bid or which of the above options you'd like to pursue. However, you can bid it more systematically than you did. Let us know your thoughts and we'll outline a strategy for you to follow. Jon052 Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 Thank you for your reply.I'd like to stay in either USE or USW, and I'm not too impressed with the Boutique or 3* properties from the reviews I've read.I guess that leaves me with the options of waiting and trying the same thing again or increasing my bid further. Does waiting until closer to the travel date make a difference? i.e. are suppliers getting more desperate to move unsold inventory? I can probably be a little flexible on my max bid, too, but I really don't want to over pay. It seems like $90-100 is in the right ballpark. Am I wrong? Please let me know your thoughts/suggestions.Thanks.
thereuare Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 Rates are date specific, so while $80-$100 may be enough at most times, it may or may not be enough for your particular dates of travel (ie- conventions and hotel events can greatly affect the supply/demand relationship)As far as 'when to bid' see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.You can choose to wait and see if inventory opens up (as you do have plenty of time), but if you're looking to 'get this done' i do think you can be successful with another $10-$15 or so per nite. As well, HOTWIRE is currently offering a 4* property for $125/nite (matches a few different properties, but best guesses would be the CLIFT, the JW Marriott (previously Pan Pacific), or the Hilton)If you choose to wait it out or to increase you bid, let us know your maximum bid and we'll outline a strategy for you to follow, as you can bid more systematically than you have above. Jon052 Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 I'd like to try again this afternoon with $110 as my max bid.Can you please let me know what bidding approach you would take for this?Again, either USE or USW would work, and preference for 4* only.Thank you.
thereuare Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 Three re-bid zones.Select 4* USE...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* USW...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* USE and USW...Bid $102, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
