joyfulheart Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 HOTELI need to stay in a hotel in Downtown Denver, 4 star. May 28-30When searching, it looks like priceline lists these as their 4* hotels in the downtown Denver areaHyatt RegencyGrand HyattMonacoWestin TaborI have a hospital rate at Doubletree Denver for $64 a night, but if I could get a 4* listed above for similar price, thought that would be wonderful to get a little pampering. :)I have already figured out what "zones" have no 4* hotels, so am prepared for that too.Any advice on bidding? Time of day? End of month/beginning of month? AIRFAREAlso will be trying to do inexpensive airfare from DFW to DEN for same dates, so any strategies would be appreciated.CAR RENTALLooking around, it seems the cheapest I can do is a economy for $18/day. Would love to get cheaper, but my research shows the super-cheap fares are usually best on weekends???I am going to bid Friday (tomorrow) seperatly for airfare, hotel and car unless research shows that another day will get better bid accepts.THANKS!
joyfulheart Posted April 27, 2007 Author Report Posted April 27, 2007 My neighbor told me to "BID REALY REALLY LOW" so I did, but didn't win. LOL Just how low is REALLY REALLY LOW anyways???Here's what I bid on for hotels (AND LOST)Bid 4* Downtown $39added airport $42added Stapleton $46added Northglen 52added Northeast $55added Denver west bid $56Also tried airfare bid for same dates 3 times, highest bid was $105. Lost them all. The last time, it came back with a offer to buy for $187, which I passed on.
joyfulheart Posted April 28, 2007 Author Report Posted April 28, 2007 Tried again today for 4* hotels, bid in $1 incriments up to $65. All bids rejected. So how low AM I supposed to bid?????Also tried for car rental, bid $15, $16 for ecomony car and both rejected.Airfare rejected also. :) :) :o Getting very frustrated. :) :D Would appreciate any tips.
thereuare Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 $65 is likely too low for a Downtown hotel in Denver... but i don't think you're too far off.If you're willing to bid higher i'd try as follows, using your 9 re-bid zones:Select 4* Downtown...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $66, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $69, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $71, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $72, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75.I think you have a good chance at success at the 4* level with the above (obviously you can stop at whatever dollar amount you're comfortable with)Let us know how high you decide to do and how it goes or if we can be of further help. joyfulheart Posted May 1, 2007 Author Report Posted May 1, 2007 That's what I've been doing.I've done this every day, but it's getting too $$$. My bids have gotten very high, yet no wins yet. :) I'll try again this evening. Your click on link I'm supposed to use is blocked here, so cant do it now.
joyfulheart Posted May 9, 2007 Author Report Posted May 9, 2007 I haven't posted update because still hasn't accepted any of my bids.Yesterday went up to $120, still rejected.I will probably just contact hotel directly, priceline has frustrated me enough to never want to bid again. :) I just didn't want you to think that I took advantage of the info, bid and won, and never gave an update. My update is priceline wont accept my bid and I am too frustrated to keep haggling with them on this trip. Thanks anyway!
