blindman Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Welcome to Betterbidding.Board coverage is limited this week but several experienced members are helping out.If you don't get an answer then bump the thread in about 1 week.If you bid 4* in New York and only want the MTW there are 2 free rebids.Looking at this old post your budget may be doableRead the comments about the Beekman Tower and Quikbookand also mention of HOTWIRE.Look at the MAPS and see if you can find recent wins on the MTW, this may give you a guide .
Will Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Well on the plus side hotel availability looks good for your dates, Hilton Times Sq, Hilton New York and Marriott all have good availability. If your dates are firm you can start bidding now:Try:$130 for MTW, if rejected add Upper West Side$140 for MTW, Upper West Side if rejected close browser re-access priceline$150 for MTW, Upper East Side if rejected try$160 for MTW,Upper West Side, Upper East SideSince its still a fair bit away I would suggest this first although I wouldn't be surprised if it was rejected. You basically have 4 bids per 24hr period (example laid out above, note this only works for a 4*!). If your rejected on these raise the price as much as your comfortable, you could do smaller increments to try and maximize your savings, or if your in a hurry to get it booked you could start at a higher amount and bid in higher increments. But with 4 bids a say I would suggest taking it slow for atleast a couple days to avoid over paying.
NOLA Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 Just started bidding yesterday--no luck yet up to 170 dollars. Will try again tomorrow with a higher bid
thereuare Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 let me know if you think I am bidding too earlyI don't think it's too early, but i do disagree whenever users only bid one midtown zone in NYC. The area is compact, and mass transit inexpensive and readily available, that usually any midtown location will do. In most instances, it doesn't make much sense to restrict yourself to only one zone when a hotel in a neighboring zone my be avaialble for $50+ less and in reality is just as convenient as your desired location. NOLA Posted May 10, 2007 Author Report Posted May 10, 2007 I just got Sofitel New York for $310 per night using the exact strategy listed above. Bid all the way from $130up to $310 (in $10 increments) over several nights and $310 was absolutely the highest bid I was going to try. My heart was set on a 4 star so I resigned myself to putting out the bucks when I realized the low bids were not going tobe accepted. However, the average nightly price for that week on Expedia at the Sofitel is $491 so I still think I am paying a great price to stay there. It is consistently at #1 and #2 on tripadvisor so I am pleased I am getting to stay there. I used the savingsbarn.com link to bid.
thereuare Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Congratulations on your win... sorry to see that you had to go up so high, but glad to hear you were finally successful in the budget you layed out and that you're happy with the results.Thank you for starting your bids with the price links at SavingsBarn.comEnjoy your stay in NYC! :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
