kliu82 Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 What's the catch?Or are prices just really good on this site?Everywhere I've looked, Affinia Dumont has been around 240-260/night, but on Quickbook for the same timeframe its just 160.Can I trust this site?
thereuare Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Yes, they are legit... they specialize in boutique properties, deal in a limited number of cities, and their 'backend' was originally designed mostly for convention business (which is still a large part of their business). Please use our Quikbook link to begin any purchases/reservations you make. What are the actual date(s) of your stay? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
kliu82 Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 I'm looking at August 3rd - August 6th
thereuare Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Rates do generally drop substantially in NYC during the summer. If you want to stay at this property i would recommend booking that rate while it's available. If you're flexible with the hotel you're willing to stay, i do think you will be able to get a 4* for less than this amount thru priceline or HOTWIRE (if not today, then as you get closer to your stay). If you are flexible, you can book the $179/nite rate at the Affinia Dumont thru Quikbook and then try to do better in the weeks/months to come before your stay.If you'd like to try priceline let us know and we can suggest a strategy to follow. If you choose to go with the Affinia Dumont it does get great reviews.Let us know what you decide or if we can be of further help. kliu82 Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 I think I may take your advice and reserve through Quikbook (which I can always cancel), and try priceline/hotwire for a better price. The thing that confuses me about the Quikbook offer is that they have a rate for a room described as Studio Double, I don't see any room like that on the Affinia website.Anyways, as for Priceline/Hotwire, I'm looking for a 3-4* hotel in a similar area as the Dumont (doesnt have to be exact) for around the same price (160-190 range).Would appreciate any help I can get, thanks!
thereuare Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Note that the site is Quickbook, not quikkbook (it doesn't have two k's)... i just did that in the topic title to prevent the auto-link. (please use the links in this post to begin your purchase)As far as bidding on priceline, the Affinia Dumont is in the MTS zone... but note that this zone extends much further south than this hotel's location. As well, just north of here is the MTE zone... the most common zones bid on priceline are MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS... with MTS being a fourth zone which is frequently added for days with high rates.Let us know excatly which zones you're willing to stay in and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. kliu82 Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 I think either of MTE or MTW would be fine.If MTS extends more south than I don't want to take the risk of winning a hotel that's a little farther than the area I want to be in.Thanks!
thereuare Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 What about UM/CPS... we do see quite a few accepted bids at the 3* level in this zone; probably more than in the MTE or MTW areas. BrockLong Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 I'm new to this site but I did want to comment. I stayed at the Affinia Dumont in early March. It is a very nice hotel with large rooms. The price you received from Quickbook beat anything that I was able to find for that period and, IMO, appears to be a very good rate. For the higher price that you got from Affinia's website, you likely could find a better deal, tho.BTW, I think that we stayed in the "junior suite" on our stay. It essentially was a relatively large room with two queen size beds and a kitchenette.
kliu82 Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 I was thinking it was probably a pricing error, and I was right. The rate is almost double now on Quikbook. Should've booked it when I had the chance, but they probably would've price-adjusted me anyways.Oh well, priceline it is then.I would be open to CPS as well
